Isn't Australia mostly deserted? She may speak from experience. |
Yup....and I live in the tropics...!

So hows about this:
~ Every team plays each week throughout the length (whatever that ends up) of the tournament.
~ Each week Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd highest averaging team.
~ At the end of the tournament, the country with the most medals wins.
Too simple? Holes? |
I like this idea the best and closest resembles the olympics |
Well, traditionally, teams are ranked by number of golds, then number of silvers then number of bronzes. So the UAE, Dominican Rep and Cameroon with their single gold medals ranked equal 54th, above North Korea who managed 4 silvers and a bronze and ended up 57th.
Personally, I like the idea of allocating a value to the medals and working out the score... and not some arbitrary value... no, what is the monetary value of each medal... so going by the Seoul Olympic Medals as a example of metal composition and weight, and using current market prices for the constituent metals, a gold is worth US$275, a silver is worth US$77 and bronze worth US$1.75. Factor in labour, R&D etc split evenly between them... one might estimate that a a gold is worth ~$350, silver $150 and bronze $75... or there abouts. Now, this does not take into consideration the sentimental value OR any other elements that might go into consideration should one want to buy or sell an Olympic medal... it's purely looking at how might it might cost a host city to manufacture them.
I think I've gone a little overboard with this... time I got some sleep.

Is there a reason why Eric and myself have the same number on our Jerseys?

It's because you two are fighting for the same spot on the roster. :P Hold on, I'll fix it.

second that!
but we should also give points for 4th and 5th place (honorable mention), provided that we have at least more than 8 (or maybe even 10) teams for the tournament.
also what do ya think about the system they use for the FSM with the "improvement points"? we could average out the "vote received" average for each team and then calculate the improvement points from that score. we do that for every of the 8 (or whatever number of events we choose) single events/challenges and at the end the team with most medals/honorable mentions wins.
does that make sense? ;) |

lol, it's hard to keep up with this thread.
My vote for scoring is everyone plays every round. No elimination.
1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze are awarded each round based on the average score of each team each round.
At the end most golds wins. With a tie in golds, most silvers from the tie teams wins, then bronze.
I suggest 6-8 rounds so it's not too long but gives those having a bad week a chance to come back.
As a little something for the end. How about a little image to say "I went to the DPC Olympics" that all participants can display on their bio. Or "I went to the DPC Olympics and all I got was this [blank]". Someone else can fill in the blank ;-) |

Yep..it's insane...it's like a live chat room, only a forum...!!
SC take note: big appetite for team sports at DPC (no league so seems that Olypmics is where the effort is....how about perverting some of the existing DPL code to support the olympics? Go on Langdon, I know you've got nothing else better to do and endless time on your hands :)
