Yep - mine is a "reflecting surface" and not a brilliantly clear reflection...seems as if folks didn't read the brief before voting. No worries - I have still to vote and I'm going to mark high all those you actually read the brief and photographed "creatively" a "reflecting surface".... boring reflections beware!!!!! |

i didn't read it as photographing a reflecting surface with absolutely nothing else in the composition. i'm not voting low those who did read it that way either. as long as i can tell it's a reflection, then what is or isn't in the rest of the comp is ok and if the rest of the comp adds interest, then even better. |

Great. Now anyone else with a "creative" take may get lumped in with the retaliation for the voting direction you've just laid out.
Can we keep voting methods to ourselves please, especially when it comes to personal vendettas? Thanks. :-)

Not "retaliation voting" at all on my part - just the way I vote: "boring" gets a boring vote, creative gets a "creative" vote...excellence in photography gets an excellent vote - not sure where you get the idea that I'm retaliating: just stating a fact that I hadn't started voting yet, but that my voting style tends to not reward the uncreative... Sorry if you thought I was insinuating something as petty as retaliation... this site is about fun, beauty and art is it not?

I didn't say YOU were retaliating...however in my time here I've seen where someone makes a blanket statement such as (just an example) "I'm going to give all pet portraits a low vote because I think portraits should only be people photos", and before you know it you have the pet portrait people up in arms. Then you get the back and forth, etc, etc...
Why people have to state how they are going to vote a certain category of photos always makes me wonder; what agenda are they trying to push? What's the point. Vote how you're going to vote and keep the influencing type comments to yourself until the voting is over. That's all. No biggee. |

Actually taking picture of a reflective surface would allow you to take picture of anything other than only of a light source. Any surface other than a completely black surface will reflect light, even a red brick wall is a reflecting surface, its uneven surface reflects back the red part of the light spectra in a caotic way. So photography is actually capturing reflective surfaces.
For this challenge I choose to photograph a surface reflecting back a clear identifiable image of its light source, I thought that would illustrate a reflective surface in a better way.
Anyhows, my score is slowly crawling back up:

I dont mind the score so much (or I do?), I am more dissapointed with the comments (0) and the feedback I was axpecting. Anyone more lucky with the comments or is general phenomenon? |

Well, I guess at least it's doing better than my "Eyes" shot. I had this idea at the last minute, and since the Open Challenges were totally uninspring for me I thought I could at least have something entered. It turned out much nicer than I expected, but the score is not very nice.

My first check at about 20 votes I had about 5.3, but it kept dropping like everyone else's. If I'd had time I would have done another shooting and fixed the most obvious flaw. Still no comments.
