ACK.

I went camera searching yesterday. Was trying to decide between the 80 and the 200. I mostly want the 200, so I needed to convince myself it is worth spending the extra money.

Well while shopping, I was shown the 300 and OMG is it amazing!!! The store I was at it was only $300 more than the D200.

I had NO intention of looking at the d300 since I didnt want to spend that much. Because I need other things... CS3, lenses..etc...

Now I need to get over my D300 obsession. Help me!! :)

It is a real sickness....
I saw a price of only $749 with free shipping for the body at this site //www.bestpricecameras.com/prodetails.asp?prodid=902276 .
Is this place for real? How can they do this? Are these foreign models or something? I'd happily be $800 poorer by the end of the day (compared to Larus's $8000 it doesn't sound so bad...:-)

Be afraid. Be very afraid. A quick Google search shows plenty of reasons to run in the other direction.

And I'd basically run in the other direction for any site that claims those sort of prices.

For a $300 difference in price between the D200 and D300 you should jump on it.

JUMP! JUMP! JUMP!

Because they are an infamous scam house. You order the cam and they call you to SELL you part that normally come boxed with the camera. If you don't buy the "extras" you get an email saying that your order is back ordered. Indefinitely.

Indeed, there is no cure. FWIW though, there are loads of D200's floating around in the used market for around $1000-1100. You might consider that...

What you do is this...

Go back to the store where you saw the D300. Pick it up in your hand and raise it to eye level. Tell it how beautiful, wonderfully functional and dreamlike it is. Tell it that your next big purchase will be him/her (your preference since it IS you that is holding it) but that you need to think more with your wallet this time. Then, and this is most important...THANK HIM/HER for coming onto the scene thereby helping to reduce the price of the D200 that you are feeling pretty close to purchasing.

Treat the future well, my friend, or all is hopelessly lost.

You should hold a D3, it will get you over that D300 infatuation. :)

Dream about pictures, not cameras.

I'm seeing fairly new 200's going for as low as 850 to 900
on eBay and other places. But really... you know that you want the D300. And your problem is called NAS.
Nikon Acquisition Syndrome. It's incurable.

I can *almost* justify spending the money.

See if I sell my D40, I can justify spending the extra $300 right?

You know what sold me on the D300? and I dont have a clue why... is the 6400 ISO with NO (or very little) noise in it.

See though I also need to get a couple of lenses.

I want the 85mm 1.8 or the 50mm 1.8 or both. :)
