So I'm shopping the web for places to rent gear from in Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. Two places come up off the bat. One of the kinda strikes me as funny/weird. Their Nikon digital gear is older and I can't see how anyone in their right mind would rent the gear for what they're asking. 3-4 years ago, sure, but not today. Scratching my head, I took a trip over to Ebay to price things out:

Rental site 1:
D1X Body, day $150, wk $600 (ebay price ~$600-700)
D2H Body, day $125, wk $500 (ebay price ~$750-1000)
D2X Body, day $350, wk $1400 (ebay price ~$1800-2000)

Rental site 2:
D-200, day $150.00, wk $600.00
D-300, day $200.00, wk $800.00
D-3, day $350.00, wk $1400.00

Needless to say, I'm more likely to rent the gear from site 2, but it strikes me as odd that Site 1 doesn't carry newer gear and that the old gear is still so steep.

Opinions?

Are you sure site one is still in business?

Not sure, the site says, (C) 2007, though.

Have you tried a local camera/photography store? I have rented locally many times (lenses, not cameras) and it seems like a better deal than shipping gear back and forth via UPS or whatever. At least with a local store you can hold it in your hands and check it out before renting.

A local Rental shop is what I was looking for. Both places are within 30 minutes drive. I wish I had a Calumet down here, but...

Are you talking Ritz, Wolf, and such places?

Most places I've seen, rentals of bodies is disproportionately higher than lens rentals.

Therefor, they make their investment back quicker, and the price should be a lower % of the value of the camera, no?

I really think I need to set up shop and make this my new source of income. lol

Have a look at these guys. I used them once for a lens (they have cameras too)...they got it to me quickly and even let me keep it a couple of extra days at no charge:

Lens Pros To Go

Excellent communication too. I originally had misgivings...but, that was more about me not being able to get what I wanted, when I wanted it (I'm working on that!).

Sorry, I meant cost. As in, $100 and up a day for bodies, while $1500 lenses rent for $30 a day...

No. I usually rent from one of three places, depending on what they have available, and the price...

- Samy's Camera (market: nationwide, based out of, and has stores in, southern California)
- Pro Photo Connection (market: Orange Co., CA)
- Bill's Cameras (market: Huntington Beach, CA)

There are also Ritz stores around, but I didn't think they rent equipment.

I don't rent bodies, but I have lenses. Have a look. //www.rentphotostuff.com

My prices are pretty low.

I knew of your venture, but I was looking for someplace local where I could rent both a Nikon body and lenses on the spur of the moment. I guess there's not much of a market for that here in Miami.
