My local camera club is having a mini comp called shutter at 1 sec which I would like to enter. I have never done anything like this before. What effect would I get a 1 sec and what are some good subjects at this speed?

Thanks in advance :)

Lights on cars at night maybe? or a running stream.

Or you could try a cool 2nd-curtain flash effect. You could capture the motion trails of people moving and then freeze them with the flash as the shutter closes. That works great for dance club photos or people doing any kind of physical activity.

That sounds like a really cool idea!

You could do the classic person stood looking at the camera in a moving crowd shot... you might need to do that at dusk tho - or get a nice ND filter.

There was a 2 second challenge a while back. Might show similar results that a 1 sec challenge might produce.

waterfall. Waterfalls were built for 1 second exposures.

You are telling me there isn't a single park, botanical garden, open area, stream or river that doesn't have a man-made waterfall in the whole city of Wellington?

When we had the Time Lapse challenge one of my experiments was shooting a big clock's second hand at 1/50th, to show the movement of the second hand from second to second. Not the most interesting of shots but it worked.

I'm a fan of streaming lights. A bit of a cliche and I'm not sure 1s would really help - but could be interesting with 2nd curtain for trails.

Lol only little piddly ones not worth doing anyhting with. One reasonable size one I know of has very difficult access to get a decent angle for photos
