Hi all,
I̢۪m coming to Dallas (Las Colinas/Irving) next week for business and plan on getting there this Saturday and Sunday to go out and shoot some photographs around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.
Could you folks in the area recommend some cools places to shoot? I̢۪ll have a car and two whole days to shoot, so don̢۪t hold back!

Maybe I can rent a vintage Cadillac convertible and re-enact the scene. ;-)

Les, I was down there last summer, and BergieKat & her hubby did a fine job of showing me around. OH! Be sure to go to Dick's Last Resort - lots of fun & laughter! (If not, there's always Hooters next door!) :D
I mean, doesn't this look fun?!?!
Seriously, plenty to see there - you may want to try the Wild Mustangs display @ Los Colinas, or the buildings by the canal. Have fun!
eta - if you have a Model Mayhem account, and want a terrificly energetic model to work with, PM me & I'll send the link to:

Flickr meetup going on this Sunday in Forney, which is just outside Dallas. I'll send you a link to the info if you would like to join us. The more, the merrier.
I live in Ft. Worth, but work in the Irving/Los Colinas area.

There's a very recognizable building in downtown Dallas that has green illumination on it. Don't take pictures of it. If you do, you're a terrorist or working for terrorists. At least that's the gist of what the Dallas Police Chief told me.

Les, let us know what you are interested in shooting and we'll try to give suggestions or even drag you around, lol! LOTS of fun places...and it's supposed to be sunny and 65 on Saturday! If you want to shoot on your own and then meet up with some folks, I'm sure we can get a few to meet for dinner/drinks..whatever. Just need a little input from ya! :D |

A fellow co-worker of mine and I are going to Fair Park in the afternoon (Saturday), then to the Trinity River area at dusk for some city skyline shots. I do want to shoot the Las Colinas Mustangs later Saturday night. As for Sunday/Sunday night, I have no definite plans.
I've been told by some others to be careful around the Trinity River area. Is there a specific location to avoid? Is there a common area for photog? Is this "gang territory" or something?

Thanks for the tips, Billy. And, no, I don't have an MM account. :-(

I've gotten a lot of suggestions from another request for places to shoot around Dallas and I've taken the liberty to plot them on a map.

Yeah, that's it, the one in the background.
I was in Dallas on business and went downtown to photograph stuff. I was across the street from the building taking pics when an officer from the Dallas PD approached me and told me, "No pictures of the building, move along... NOW!" Not wanting to get stomped by one of Dallas' finest goons, I complied. Later I wrote to the city council and mayor, informing them of what happened. I received a reply from the Chief of the Dallas PD that cited Terrorist since 9/11, blah, blah, blah. I've been pretty sour on the whole city since.
After Googling the building, I was able to find fairly detailed structural drawings, tenant info, and of course hundred of photos. Certainly enough information to make a terrorist intent on attacking the building quite happy.

It's nuts. Someone got the idea in their head that a terrorist might take pictures of a potential target, so now anyone taking pictures is suspect? How can you keep people from taking photos of a skyscraper that is visible from miles away?
I was taking some pictures in Sundance Square recently and a security guard shooed me away saying the courtyard location I was in was a privately owned area and photos were not allowed. |

Under the Patriot Act, you'll simply disappear into a black hole of secret prisons, the existence of which the government will neither confirm or deny. ;-)
