I came across an SB25 for free and want to use it with my Nikon D80. Eventually I'd like to upgrade, but I really don't have any practice yet with a mounted flash unit.

Questions--one, can I go ahead and mount this and it should work (it shouldn't hurt the camera, right)? Two, What is the best way to learn flash photography, besides the requisite practice practice practice?

It will work in "Auto" mode where it uses it's own sensor to meter the flash intensity. It will also work in manual mode where you set the flash intensity. Do a search of SB25 manuals online in PDF form if you don't have one. I use SB28's and they will work as I indicate. The flash WILL NOT work in TTL mode with a digital camera.

Edit:

Ooops, almost forgot: Strobist
