I had a conversation with an Adobe tech dude yesterday that concluded with Photoshop CS3 being incompatible with Sony Vaio laptops. WTF? Can this really be?

According to the tech dude, bc the vaio, a brand spanking new laptop that exceeds the min. requirements of CS3, has an onboard video card, ps is unable to open more than one file at a time, basically rendering ps as obsolete on my system.

I got vista home premium running on my system. I figured that dpc has brainier folks and that I would seek counsel here.

What up? Any thoughts on the viability of this?

Update: I read recently that a whole bunch of folks had a conflict with ps cs3 and network printer drivers. On the off chance that this might be the problem, I just deleted the network printer I use for work.

Launched PS CS3 and now I can open as many pix as I want! Holy crap! When I asked the tech dude if this was a possibility, he said no.

What heck am I gonna do now? Delete the drivers every time I want to use ps? This is outrageous!

Smells like fish to me.

Assuming your system meets or exceeds the minimum memory and chip speed then there is either a problem with your software or the load of it, or a prob with your operating system or the hardware.

Yes, but do you have a network printer driver installed?

CS3 was working fine BEFORE I installed the printer drivers. After, I could not open more than 1 pic at a time. I just deleted the drivers and now everything is working just fine.

There's loads of post on the web about this conflict.

My system is brand new, less than a few months old. I have 2GB of RAM and 200GB of memory.

I have a vaio and cs3 and its all networked, no problems at all!
The network doesnt always work but thats always been that way, not due to anything to do with cs3

I have a vaio which runs PS elements fine - but has given up running flash player - so I can't look at any videos without either

a) running IE7 as Admin, or
b) running them in Firefox

If anyone has any bright ideas they would also be appreciated

This isn't meant to be a threadjack - more a 'here's another Vaio laptop issue' : (

This is good news to hear. If deleting the network drivers enables cs3 to function as it should, am I wrong in assuming that this is the problem? I;ve tried a selective startup to make sure that it isn't some other application.

I installed the drivers after cs3. Do you think that installing cs3 AFTER the drivers might make a difference?

I really think I've pinpointed to the problem but really need to figure out a way around it.

It *could* be that the network driver install is overwriting a file that's shared with CS3. That could cause problems. It's also possible that the network driver installation is changing settings somewhere, and that could also cause problems.
If it's a file overwrite, then installing CS3 after the network printer may clear up the issue (CS3 will write the file last). If it a system setting, installing CS3 last may or may not clear the issue, depending on whether CS3 checks the setting.
There are other possibilities that I'm probably not aware of. I do believe, however, that you have a good handle on what's causing the problem. Perhaps not a bad idea to get back in touch with Adobe and see what they ave to say, now that you have more information.

All around good tips kirbic. I'm gonna try and install cs3 last and see what results. Will post back in case others run into the same problem.

UPDATE: So reinstalling cs3 AFTER the drivers did not work. cs3 has gone back to crashing if I try and open more than one pic at any time. CURSES!

Gonna call up Adobe and see what's what!

I guess I don't know how to help. But I run CS3 on my Sony Vaio and it works just fine. Never had a problem. Calling Adobe sounds like a good idea.

Rooster, I had issues with CS3 on my Dell when I got it. After reinstalling Windows Vista from scratch the issues cleared up.

Yeah, I did that with my dell but my vaio is brand new and there is no WAY I want to go thru that hassle of reinstalling the OS. Plus, I don't even have the disks. I would have to buy the disks off of sony before I can do that.

The problem is DEFINTELY the network copier/printer drivers. If I delete those bastard drivers then CS3 works with pristine precision!

Gonna try and call adobe 2morrow but I'm not holding my breathe. the last tip I got from them was that cs3 does not work with the vaio i have. WACK!

UPDATE & SOLUTION!

So I called Adobe... finally. I told them that I had isolated the problem to the network drivers and that others have had the same problem. All I had to do was change the default printer to anything local. So, if you have a network printer with drivers that seem incapatable with CS3, all you have to do is change the default printer to something local. Since I do not have any other printer drivers installed on this puter, I just changed the default printer to the adobe pdf printer.

Thanks for the posts guys!
