Hey everyone,

I just got hired (if I want the job) by Rowing Canada to shoot the 2003 Canadian Olympic Rowing Trials from Nov. 21-23. It's for the purposes of selling prints to rowers, should they want them.

2 questions...

1. Anyone ever shot rowing from a committee boat before? I am thinking my 70-200 F4L is going to be inadequate. If my F717 sells and I can make some money on the job and in future jobs, I may think about the 300 F4L IS. Renting from Vancouver seems to make more sense though. So what would you rent? 300 F2.8 or 400 F2.8 sounds about right, though I wonder.

2. Pricing. How would one price these photos? For the few contract shoots I've done I've always sold my services on a one-time-fee basis and then the client has done what they may with the shots. For this, I don't know what to charge for 4x6s, 5x7s, 8x10s etc. I was thinking $5, $10, $20 but being an athlete myself, and being grateful for the experience at such a meet, I don't want to overcharge athletes but at the same time don't want to build a reputation for being cheap and easy around town.

Any insight?

Thanks.

Go for cheap and easy. It gets the most business.

Price the smallest size low, a loss leader in salesmen's terms.

This is so cool. Taking pictures for your country. Congratulations. If they use it for promotional purposes you will have enough for all your equipment needs.
