I'm looking at getting a second flash unit, I currently have a sb800 and love it but they are damn expensive.
Does anyone here use a 2 flash set up?
Any thoughts if an sb800 is worth the extra $ for a second flash. |

The drawback of the SB-600 is that you can't use it as a Master for CLS, but since you already have an SB-800, there's no reason not to make your second an SB-600. The controls are a bit different and you lose a few feature.

| I use the SB600 as my second light, no problems. It feels a little different to use and doesn't come with it's own diffuser (gotta buy one), but it's still a good light. |

| Another thing to keep in mind a that the SB-600 does not have a PC port or the ability to be triggered optically. This could cause problems later on if you want to get into off camera flash work. As long as you can stay within the parameters needed to use CLS then all will be well, but if you want to get more creative with pocket wizards the SB-600 won't be useful. That's the problem I'm running into now... |

It works fine with Pocket Wizards. All you need is a hotshoe-to-PC adapter. |

I see. So then how do you attach the SB-600 to a light stand if the adapter is on the hotshoe? I assume you are talking about the AS-15 Sync Adapter? |

the adapter gets sandwiched between the stand and the strobe |

How is that?
I only see one connecter. I think that adapter is only for camera hotshoes when they do not have PC ports.

A standard PC-to-hotshoe adapter goes between the flash and the stand and hooks into the PocketWizard. They cost under $10 each.
Better ones can be bought:

| I just got a the Cactus V2s radio control flash trigger. I got an extra receiver and bought an SB-25 for 45 dollars. Total cost was about 80 dollars. The triggers don't need PC sync cables and I now have two off camera flashes. Much cheaper than an SB-600 and more power. You lose the CLS system and have to set the powers manually. But if I find any flash now cheap around the internet I can pick up another receiver for $20 and I have another light added to the system. I have only played with it twice and had two misfires out of a few hundred shots. I had more trying to fire my sb-600 using the on camera flash with the D200. A lot more. |

This is the end that goes on the camera. At the other end of the PC cord you need something like what Leroy linked to. It screws into the stand and you slide the flash onto it and plug the cords in.

| I have 800 and 2x600. 600s have less power and I hate controls on them. I can never remember which buttons to hold together. Other than that they are all great. |

Get the SB800. If you get the SB600 you'll be wishing you had gotten the SB800 within a month where as if you just buy the SB800 you'll have no regrets.
I had an SB800 and 2 SB600s and often wished I had just gotten 3 SB800s. |

| thats what Im sort of thinking, I can get an 800 on eBay for the same price as a 600 in a store. So Im thinking I find the right seller and take a punt. Surely If the ebay one goes down I could take it back to the seller of my first one for warranty repair :) |

Actually warranty repair is tied to the warranty card with serial number which contains a list of authorized repair locations. You can either drop them off or ship it to them. I had to get a SB-600 rebuilt due to the flash circuit going off on it's own.
Just be sure to get the warranty card.
