wow, Peter, that stuttering computer of yours is starting to freak me out. :)

Free Study is starting off waaaayyyyy better than I ever thought it would:

Avg Vote: 5.7500

But it's early days yet and there's still plenty of room to go down; if it goes up, I'll consider it an act of God.

Sorry to hear your Free Study anticipation is getting stomped on so hard, Juli...

My Birds and Old Ways are both about a point lower than I expected them to be. Ouch. However, my Free Study is exactly where I expected it to be: 4.7

I was a little low on eye candy in January so I decided to just post a non-DPC pic that I really liked. So I'm happy. :) Too bad that I joined the 2008 Free Study Marathon! hahahahaha

Jeffrey, Lopside Press put up about a quarter of the book online, like a big tease, so yeah there's more in the print version. And drawings on every page! :) More poetry books should have those.

Come to think of it, I have had that same feeling. When a shot of mine, that I really like, is getting hammered, I tend to vote lower than usual. Good idea not to vote at all. Why pass on the crap.

Deb, thanks for the offer. I sent you the link.

I wouldn't worry too much about that, as long as you vote consistently low. The actual numbers don't matter, only the relative difference in points between the photos.

Here's a link, anyway.

It's a copy of an ancient Greek sculpture. It's there by the market place in Florence and they say it brings you luck if you touch it. Judging by the looks on the faces around, I'd say they were touching history.

That cute enough?

Get well.

Oh yeah, I've touched that guy's nose before :) (one of those must do things in Florence). It was in the evening, I was there for my birthday with my boyfriend at the time, and there was a violin player near the statue too... God, I'd forgotten all about that moment until I saw the picture :)
It was a pretty enchanted weekend, so I'd vouch for the pig bringing at least tepmorary good luck.

SaraR, here's some lemurs for you. They cheer me up anyway :)
Hope you feel better soon!

I woke up in the middle of the night with this running through my mind. We all know that Photography is used to convey messages either by the picture itself or the title. So I thought why not have a challenge where you take the photo and leave it untitled and then have the titles off to the side and the voter had to match them up with the photo. Ok I know it's weird so must stop taking cold stuff right before bed :)
This all started because I have a idea for Advertisement, but I don't think people will get it if I don't title it right, but then I was thinking I've seen print ads that I don't get right away then it hits me.
On another note I have my last dr's appt. for my back Monday. Hopefully I'll be able to drive and go out and find other things to take pictures of then stuff around the house :)

I think you're on to something! Go suggest (in the challenge suggestion thread somewhere) to have a Title-less challenge, where voters get to provide their own titles. Heh! Or it could be a side challenge, more likely, since there would be some sort of mild uproar about having it be a challenge... very cool idea!

Thanks Deb! I swear you and Terry are about the only ones who like my photography, lol. You also gave me a nice comment on my bird shot (one of two who liked it out of the 11 who commented). I adore my FS shot, but I can see now why it's scoring the way it is. When voting is over, check my bird shot, your comment pretty much nailed what I was going for.

Don, what a fantastic comment on this shot:

too bad you have a deathtime yappie already, I'd be over nominating you right now...

Really? I don't find that my score really matters either way when I'm voting. Now what has affected me is realizing I didn't have the only, or even best, way of interpreting the challenge.

Sara: here are a few humor shots of mine. I hope they help you smile. :)

Rob: I'm still flying high, now also in the free study!

thank you Jelena and Jeffrey - they certainly were good medicine, and I left you a few comments by way of a thank you.

My Birds is experiencing an upsurge! Well, I think it is but can't say for sure; I'm getting very good comments on it and am delighted! I think my FS has picked up some, but I don't plan on looking any time soon. My Old Ways was doing well last I looked - and I quite like that one. Oh, and Bruce, you may not be thrilled with my FS, but I'm thinking you'll probably like the other two.

Sara, there's a thread now called "Try not to laugh" - given your rib issues, please do NOT go watch that link. You'll need surgery to repair the damage.

I've been looking at getting a photo studio light box, but have no clue where to start. I'm thinking of making one saw some out on the web, but then I've been looking at Ebay also. My wonderfull husband said why not go to you all and get some ideas on them. I'm sure one or more of you have thoughts on them, or have one. Oh and I really don't want to pay an arm or leg. Thanks in advance.

Well, here's a link, to a place I found thanks to this thread.

Looks reasonable enough to me - I'm sure it could be modified to suit whatever materials/needs you have...

Then if you like it you can spend lots of money on buying one :-)

Oh no, that wasn't the machine or the ghost in it, that was me. Must. Go. To. Bed.

Now.

I made my light box by cutting out most of three sides of a computer monitor box and taping panels of frosty white trash bag plastic over the openings and lying the box on its side. I am pretty happy with it.

A little package from DPC prints arrived for me today - I'm now a proud owner of Melethia's Ode to Joy :) It's looking at me rather joyously from my wall, I'm really happy with it!

Oh, and for cheering up purposes, here's some of my favourite happy DPC pics:
