Hope you are still up, Peter - I have sent you a reply, took longer than it should have as my internet connection is playing up. |

Sara, if you are still in need of opinions, you can PM me...
I am in for January Free Study - I'm expecting a rollicking week watching my score take a nosedive. :) |

Karen, a second opinion would be useful - thanks for the offer. I can't attach files to a PM - can you PM me your e-mail address? |

Hi Sara, I would be happy to give you an opinion. You have my email from helping me with my architecture. :) |

Just noticed only 4 images have been critiqued in the last 2 weeks by the Critique Club... There's hardly anyone doing it, it seems. Guess I better get to work this weekend :) |

Karen: arrrgggh even more for you. Sigh. Schmuck. If it's any comfort, you have memories, and they can't take those.
Don: thank for your poem. I can actually understand it, which is a rarity for me outside of Dr. Seuss and Robert Frost. I read the chapbook, but I guess that's just one small part?
Brian: congrats on that score!
Ernie: I bought extension tubes a few months ago. They work great! Here are a few shots I took with them:
Rob: man, that sucks about your lens. But at least if that copy was cheap, maybe you can find another?

I hear that. Even my entries that I think are great shots tend to do poorly in Free Study challenges. I like to think it's because all of the other images are much better, not that I'm lacking photographically. |

There are days when I swear I will not enter any more challenges here. This is one of those days. Sigh. |

I have those days, too (you know I do, you regularly comfort me during them). I had my highest scoring image ever in last month's Free Study, allegedly breaking my 6.3 "ceiling" and getting a fifth place. Right now I have three images in: one at 5.66, one at 4.99, and one -- a free study image that was seen by two TSers prior to submission, one for this challenge and one for a previous where I didn't enter it -- is at 4.35.
So, I feel your pain, but I actually think that I've adopted the attitude I've seen you take so many times. I really like these images; they speak to me (more than my free study did, which speaks to me more as a pretty image that my mom would have loved, so it's kind of her memory that gives it emotion for me).
Do you like your image? Does it speak to you? When the challenge is done (assuming I don't comment the Free Study, which I don't think I have time to do), will I love it (yes, I will, I have yet to see a shot of yours that doesn't reach me; I doubt this is a first). So, breath. Know that you will reach people, and that sometimes challenges are the best way to do that. And, if you need to, go and look at your profile page, with all those great images, with all the depth, and know that many times, too often, actually, people miss things in challenges that they'll later wish they hadn't.
Breath. Oh, and turn scores off :)

As for my lens, I think Jeffrey has it right. I just need to keep watching eBay for a "new" one, I guess. I loved the f/3.8 at 200mm, especially as it was a 1:4 macro lens, too. I am watching some Sigma 75-300s right now, but they're all f/4.0-5.6; I see a really good deal on the Nikon 55-200 VR (can't afford the 18-200 VR, which is what I'd really like to get), and that might do, as well.
I've started taking the old one apart, but my screw driver wasn't the right one. I can't ruin it; the way the water dried the blades are all sticky and there are water spots on all the elements. It would have to cost at least £50 to get it fixed, and I ought to be able to replace it with the same version for less than half that. So that's what I'll do, while maybe learning something about the construction of lenses in the meantime!
I think extension tubes are in my future, too, though I wouldn't mind trying Jeffrey's idea about a beer cozy to match two lenses up, either :)
Brian, rockin' score! Hang on there; Jeffrey, how are yours holding up (don't want to jinx you, but had to ask)?
Jelena, 4 comments in the last two weeks? How many are in the que and waiting? I had seen some threads about how to deal with comment club issues, but never saw a resolution. Ugh.
Okay, back to work!
Bruce

176 images in the queue. The Critique Club stuff seems to come and go in waves - a sort of call to arms goes out on the forums, loads of people comment, it cools down after a while, then another call to arms goes out, etc.
I can't speak, since I haven't had the time to do one since about last June. Still, time to get started again :)

I'm feeling a wee bit miserable at the moment. I have had a bad cough now for 6 weeks, and have been off work since the end of December. The pain in my side is getting worse so went back to the doctors; nothing to worry about, jusy inflamed cartilage and muscles, but quite debilitating. I now have a sick-note for yet another week, and a prescription for codeine, steroids, and diclofenac - combined with the medication I take for a couple of long-standing problems I should be high as a kite! Anybody got any gently amusing (laughing is kind of painful...)or pretty photos to cheer me up? |

Here's a link, anyway.
It's a copy of an ancient Greek sculpture. It's there by the market place in Florence and they say it brings you luck if you touch it. Judging by the looks on the faces around, I'd say they were touching history.
That cute enough?
Get well. |

That is cute! The boar does look rather sad though, as if he carries all the worries of the world. The faces did all look rather awe-struck. |

I wish someone would tell me what's wrong with this shot. I've been eagerly looking forward to showing this shot all month, and it seems no one likes it at all. :( |

Do I like it? Yeah, makes a nice desktop. Doesn't speak to me other than "pretty picture - makes a nice desktop!". Mom likes it. You won't love it. I'm just letting it go.... (Yes, I tried to do something nice and pretty that DPC might like. I really REALLY need to stop trying to do that. Really.)
I'll probably not vote Free Study this go 'round, but maybe I'll just peruse through with the arrow key, and comment on those that speak to me.
An unrelated (well, somewhat) aside - ordered a nice slate gray Jetta. Sensible, economical, boring. I'm in a rut. :-)
Julianne, since I'm not planning to vote, PM the ID number to your entry and I shall go take a look and comment. Any other team suckers that want comments but no vote are invited to do the same. |

Oh, I think I can see the problem there, it's the score.
I know the feeling, or at least something like it. I can't vote or comment on others when that happens, because if mine's worth that much then what is all this junk worth?
Go knead som flour. :-) |
