Ok so its been a balmy -25C to -35C here this week not taking in to account the wind chill factor. My 4 year old son gets bussed every morning from his daycare to a special school to help his development from being born so premature and hes only there 1/2 the day. Anyway I get a call at lunch today from the daycare that for the SECOND time this week the school (supposedly full of the SMART teachers) sent him back to the daycare without his snow pants on. Now this mite not seem to be a big deal to some but considering he has the height of your average 4yo child but he is only 30.5lbs and the real clincher is he still has the little problem of his Chronic Lung Disease which if he gets pneumonia bad enough it can KILL him which his school is WELL aware of as he has been this --> <-- close to the worst case scenario once before.
Those that know me should be proud that I actually kept my cool this time unlike the last incident which I may or may not get in to. Anyway I couldn't get a hold of his teacher directly but spoke to the director of the school and proceeded to inform them that I was way past upset and couldn't figure out why they wouldn't send my son back to the daycare in the snow pants he arrived in. I didn't yell and managed to keep my voice down but it took every fiber in my being to keep a calm tone. No offense to bus drivers, he gets driven by a private Co that provides transportation to disabled people and the drivers are not hallways the sharpest pencils in the box and asked the school if they thought if something happened to the bus do they think the first priority would be to get the snow pants on? Which basically means taking off his coat and mitts to get the snow pants on in -30C weather!! I DON'T THINK SO. I told her that if my son comes back to the daycare without the snow pants on of which being 4 he HAS NO CHOICE IN THE MATTER that I would be coming down to the school personally to discuss the matter.
Sorry I just had to vent some where as my pulse is around 126 ATM and trying desperately to calm down...

Don't explode - it would be very messy. Worse than spitting your coffee onto your monitor and keyboard. :-)
You did good to keep your cool and very clearly state your position. Maybe you can pin a note to his snowpants that say "Kid must be in these before departing school!" for tomorrow. |

Good for you keeping your cool. Not easy when it comes to the health & well-being of your kids. I tend to lose control over that sort of thing to an embarrassing extreme. I've been lucky not to have done jail time over it.... oops!

My kids school has a policy and the Kids from K-2 have to wear snowpants when they leave the building. It is manditory, Even when the temps are 10 degrees above freezing. Sometimes I get mad when they send the kids out all bundled up because they are overdressed and get hot in the car and complain all the way home.
But I reckon I would be twice as mad if they didn't enforce that rule on a day like today, Which school was actually canceled. -9 F wind gusts 50MPH windchill factor -40F. Just a Nasty Day!
