You know how almost all video games have a screen that congratulates you after you beat the monster at the end of the game?
DPC should implement such a screen as an incentive to comment/vote... it could be some sort of random/often updated picture, joke or message or just a congratulations.
Also, perhaps we could implement a statistic that gives stars (or commenting ribbons) to those that comment 100% on a challenge. Like a stat on the side bar with the name of the challenge and a gif graphic.
I know they aren't much, but may give a little nudge to commenting/voting. Just some thoughts on incentives.

I think that's a good idea. Or maybe you could earn "DPC-Dollars" proportionate to votes & comments, and use these "DPC-Dollars" to buy "Virtual-DPC-Bling" with which you could decorate your profile page in 'special' ways.
That way you wouldn't be married to commenting 100%, but get paid off proportionate to comments.
(Sorry, been playing too much Webkinz lately)

I thought we already had something like that going in the form of the 100% Comments club. I agree that more people commenting woudl be great. If there's anything else that would improve the commenting rate... |

I think what Judi has done with this (100% Comments club) is quite honorable and still the best way to go. A non-automated reward that gets some validation.
While I think I understand the intent of the OP, implementing this suggestion will bring on an increase of meaningless comments (i.e. "nice", "wow", "great", etc...). Similar to the nature of what happened when they had the challenge entry tied to the number of comments given vs rec'd.

Integration of Judi's idea into the site would be great.

I'm proud to say that I've voted for 100% of the pictures in every challenge that I've voted, even that marathon 400+ Best of 07. I do it because I want to see all the photos, and so that my vote means something (to me at least, at the end when I can sort by my vote). Personally I think some kind of encouragement/incentive would be a great thing - not because I want to bling myself up, but because I think it will affect the voting outcome...however...and this is a big however...I reckon it could have a negative impact as well as positive:
Positives
- users get recognition for voting efforts
- encourages more voting
- puts photographs in context of the rest of the field when voting (i.e. relative)
Negatives
- pressure to complete 100% to get bling might mean faster and less considered voting
- might create a two tier system of 'elite voters' that many people have been very against in other threads
- not everyone has the time to sit and vote through 200+ images (which is a bit of a weak argument seeing as there's a week to vote)

Ooh, that's a good enough point right there to make me want to retract Bling availability to voting. Maybe just Bling for commenting.

Nothing implicitly wrong with those comments, but the ToS does prohibit the purposeful manipulation of site statistics. If SC suspects someone of just leaving one word comments to reach a 100% stat they could politely ask the commenter to stop or take further action.
I'm pretty sure they took such actions with the commenting of only a vote score, which was not being taken well by a lot of members.
