i was out the other afternoon minding my own business and taking a few shots of the storm brewing over the bay where i live.next thing some #%@& redneck comes charging up the hill and accuses me of taking photos of his house and family like im some sort of sick pervert hiding in the bushes! never mind that i was at a public lookout and had every right to be there.i wasnt exactly hiding either.i was standing out in the open on a rock outcrop with my tripod & remote set up & was wearing a white shirt.not the best cammo.surely if i was sneaking photos of his kids i wouldnt park my car 10 feet away from where i was;especially since there is a sign across the back window advertising my photography website.and yes,he did have to walk straight past my car & couldnt have missed the sign on the window.i even offered to show him the photos but he wouldnt look at them.what a f@&kwit.(can i say that on here?)then he went to his neighbours and was pointing up at me and saying who knows what about me? has this sort of thing happened to anyone else? |

Tell 'em to feel free to call the police on you. That usually confuses those types :) |

It's happened to me -- and I was standing in my back yard taking photos of the valley across from my house. Not to mention that they guy had the gall to walk up my back yard past the no trespassing signs (it's 13 acres), onto my deck and then yell at me. I asked his name so I could be sure to get it right when I called the police.
Funny part of the story is that I told him I wouldn't give him permission to walk down my pasture again so he'd have to walk on the road (about a 2 mile detour). Realizing that he may have been wrong, he walks down the road and cuts across a farmers pasture. He calls the cops and gets the guy fined for upsetting his livestock. Needless to say, he has since moved and we now have a lovely neighbor across the valley...
Bottom line -- don't take it personally. |

Too bad the 40D doesn't do video. We could be laughing with you on YouTube. :-D
But, like Alan said, offer to call the police yourself, it'll shut that type up quickly.

i told him to feel free to call the cops n said i'd wait around for em to turn up.i thought about going to see his neighbours and explaining what i was up to,but i dont think i should have to justify myself.i thought about going to the police to let them know what this guy was accusing me of,and what i was actually doing.in the end i decided not to draw attention to myself cos i havent finished with him yet.i'll keep going back as much as i want just to piss him off.this spot has been a lookout for as long as the town has existed and thes guys have only lived there for about a year.it looks over the mountainous headlands that form the entrance to the largest waterway on the east coast.who builds a house near a lookout in a major tourist town & then complains about an invasion of privacy?by the way slippy,im still kicking myself for not thinking about taking his picture until later.i did scare him enough to make him run away though.ha ha. |

I've had the cops called on me without the person confronting me instead, so I found out when i realized there was a cop checking out my car. (I talked about it in this thread.)
But really you just have to shake it off and move on with your life, there will always be crazy people out there to harass us photographers.
