A radio station here in Salt Lake had listeners calling in for days trying to guess this answer:

Q. What's "the first thing you know"?
A. ???

Hmmmm... how do you photograph a smell? I still smell it once in a while...still have no idea what it is!

I can see the photos now...an otherwise dark photo with a carefully crafted shape of an opening with light shining through and the image of a doctor wearing a scrub mask peering in. LOL!

Somehow...I see Leroy coming up with the perfect rendition of that one! If not an actual shot of the process! :)

The one where I tore my leg open crawling under a chair, getting hung up on a nail sticking out??? I think I'll pass on repeating that one! ;)

hmm should we actually be sharing our memories if we are entering, me thinks not. however i will reveal my earliest memory that I'm not going to enter: it was either getting a bath in the sink and I cried because the water was too hot, or my dad driving across a running creek while I watched from my bouncer chair the bank with my cousins, for that one I know I was 6 months old.

My earliest memory would make a great photo - I remember a neighbors fishtank w/ all their tropical fish. (I was 2 at the time) I just don't know anyone who has fish! The lighting in the pet section at Super Walmart isn't exactly "super."

Oh, and my other "earliest" memory would probably get a DNMC. Same neighbors had some bar glasses (aka "rocks" glasses) that fascinated me. They were nearly globe shaped and had silver rims. But even if it wouldn't be a dnmc shot, I don't know anyone who has glasses like that, lol.

I remember attacking this giant globe thing with others to get inside of it... I don't know why though, I had a huge urge to just get in... I think I had a long tail too :P

There was this barricade of plastic, but I somehow snuck through.

Don't look at me, I've blocked that painful event from memory.

I think you've all missed the most important part about this challenge. If you want the masses to relate to your image, you need to photograph their earliest memory not yours. ;-)
