Golf tournaments do not like to allow cameras in. Unless you go on a pre- tournament day. In this case, the Buick Invitational allows you to bring them in (no bag checks either) on Monday and Tuesday (which are practice days) and Wednesday (which is their Pro- Am tournament where amateurs are paired up with a pro). I went on Wednesday which was probably the best day of the week weatherwise. Torrey Pines will also be the site later this year (June) for the US Open Tournament.
If you want to capture big game like Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson, you need to start out early- they get the earliest tee times- in this case, 6:30am. I got there a bit before that, when it was still dark. The sky was just beginning to lighten when I took this one of the eighteenth green on the South course.
I brought my Nikon D80 and my 18- 135mm (for wider angle shots) and my 70- 300mm VR lens with a polarizer. Most of my shots were taken with the longer lens. Here a golfer tees off on South Course #1- later in the day at 18mm. Polarizer helped on the sky and clouds.
I decided to just follow Tiger Woods around instead of trying to get shots of many other golfers. Some of my efforts:
And just for fun, I brought along my infrared converted Fuji P&S camera. This is the best one from it (I didn't use it much though). I don't imagine there are very many infrared shots of him anywhere.

That was fun :-) Torrey Pines was one of my two "home courses" for all my years in San Diego. The other was Morgan Run. Love the "pose" shot.

Tiger ended up winning by eight shots- a record for the Buick Invitational.

Nice- I did a google search for Tiger Woods infrared and this post is the second item that comes up- the first is for a sauna.
