Ok there seems to have been a couple of downbeat threads lately with people bored or critical. I'm certainly not criticizing that, it's part of the community to express one's feelings and this should be respected. It is also good that criticism is regularly expressed, that's the only way the site can improve continuously.

But I felt like stating that this should not overshadow the greatness of this site. So why not have a positive, sunshine kind of thread? If you feel like me, and just want to say why you love DPC, just post here (but again only positive comments!)

For me, the site has been a great way to learn, improve, and feel motivated:
* The site is great for beginners like me, because the community is full of us, yet also rich with very good, inspiring photographers. The fact that they are masters of studio lighting or photoshop is what has been driving me to always improve and learn. At the very beginning I thought I could never reach that kind of level. Now I'm still far, but I have learned enough to think that one day, maybe, I could do the same.
* The variety of challenges from completely weirdo themes to the open monthly challenge means anyone, at some point, should feel in sync with a theme and can submit an inspired photograph (hey i even managed to get two ribbons! - so really anybody can).
* The community is great and full of creative ideas. For one, I participated last year, and will participate again to Scott's Free Study Marathon. It pushed me to take the time to do at least one shot a month that is more than a nice family snapshot - and learn from it.
* Yes the photography at DPC has its own style. Yes many other great styles of photography will not fare well at DPC. So what? At least I have learned some basics. And from that if I ever feel like developing one day my own, very artistic and not DPC friendly vision of the world, at least I now have tools to do so.
* Overall I feel much more confident about my nascent photography skills than a year ago, all thanks to DPC and its community.

To all newcomers or would be members: this site is great! Come spend some time here, and enjoy!

And I send my thanks to Langdon, the SC and all those that make this site a great photographic experience.

Cool thread!

I agree, for me DPC is the only site I want to be on where I can compete with people all over the world, I can buy someone a virtual beer in the DPC Bar.

I've learned a lot just being on here and I still learn every day looking at the tutorials, comments on photos, and all the help offered in the forums.

Hi, my name is Deb and I'm a DPC addict. I stick around because I enjoy the company and I still enjoy shooting for challenges, even the serially numbered ones. And I REALLY enjoy finding gems in the challenges - there are always a few!

I love dpc too, I payed 25 bucks to be a member, and in 9 months, I've learned more than i could learn in any course, and I've met hundreds of nice people, and laughed at the few crazy ones. Dpc is an awesome place, and maybe people get tired of it after a while, so take a break and see if you wanna come back. Also once you establish yourselves don't just leave, make sure you help some other people establish themselves. Thats all i got, but i really do love being at dpc

I hate DPC and everyone here. I'm just a masochist.

I was going month to month for a while, and I just renewed my membership for a full year.

I think that indicates either I'm getting a lot out of this site, or that I'm just another masochist.

I think it has nothing to do with DPC, but with some depression caused by the turmoil in the credit markets.

I love DPC and like any love affair, if I didn't truly love it, I would just leave instead of hanging around bitching about discussing things it does :-D

I know there is a lot of growling as of late (and it goes in cycles) and people taking sides on issues, but all in all those voices are being heard because the speakers love this place.

I may not agree with some of the policies, I may not agree with some members or SC, but I just recently re-upped my membership for yet another year... and have no "buyer's remorse" over that $25.

So, yes, DPC... I love you, even when I hate you!

After taking a class at the local community photography place where the instructor insulted what he called "cutesy postcard images," I found DPC.

This is a great place and I have learned much here. There is little artistic arrogance here and people make a real effort to help. Just yesterday I got a question to a forum post in less than an hour.

I am looking forward to continued learning and doing better in challenges as I learn more about image making and Photoshop. I'm a happy member.

Big DPC fan here as well. No regrets about this place at all.. Except that one incident, but we managed to cover that up, I was young and needed the money.

I did my share of bitching when I first started entering challenges as well but I never complained about this community as a whole or the way the site is run.. I have taken my time away and have just entered a challenge for the first time in awile and I must say that I missed it. Love this place man. And if you don't...the door is wide open. Something about don't let it hit you where the good Lord split you. My 2cents worth. Rock on DPC.

What is masochistic about hating DPC and everyone here?
The pending backlash of such of statement in a thread that extols the opposite?

A comment I just read in another thread brought back some memories...

Being my 4th entry to the site, I'll be quite happy if this one settles at 1 point higher than my first entry. I can't wait to see how my architectural one fares - that one turned out better than my bird entry.

This is a pretty fun site. :-)

The DPC formula is still alive and well for many. :-)

I love DPC. It is my favorite website, honestly. I have learned so much just in the past few months in unbelievable. The people here are so nice, and I love the advice and critique I get. This place is great, it is filled with some very talented people who don't mind sharing their knowledge, and for that I will be forever greatful.

I won't ever leave this site, until someone kicks me out!
