I saw a 16GB CF card that I would like to buy, but is it compatible with the Canon XT and XTi?

I know the 20D can use larger cards as long as you format them in windows fat32 or a more recent Canon camera. If you format natively it stops at 4Gb.... I assume the Rebel would be the same. Canon don't bother updating the firmware for anything so unless I missed one, I doubt the camera will ever do it natively.

I use/used 4gb and 8gb cards in my XTi and the 40D

| I think the XT can only format a card up to 8GB. A 16gb card should work if you format it on another camera or computer, however the camera will only show 999 shots remaining when it's really 2000+). Personally, I'd stick to a few 4GB or 8GB cards. |

Or smaller... personally, I haven't gotten the courage to exceed 2GB, even then I'd be crushed if I lost 2GBs of photos.
I don't get the idea of huge cards... ofcourse I grew up on 36 exposures being a lot.

Im with  scalvert on this one, Im sticking with a few 4gb cards as Ive had a couple crap out in the past and even a couple 8gb cards and using the 8gb is just that much more to loose where if Im using 4gb cards then I will most likely walk away with some descent shots if one of the cards crap out...

would have agreed with you there, right up until I got my D300. I shoot raw and a 4gb card is only holding approx 160 shots, so 8gb (or higher) seems the only way to go on this new cam. 2 gb on the D70s gave me 350 raw shots. |
