DPReview

Never noticed this existed - just ran across a mention on another forum - and might not appeal to a lot but the reviews sound okay but it's interesting they seem to be trying to compete with the popular large range Nikon zoom :-).

I'm probably going to be buying one of these in the next few days, it seems like pretty good value at around £200.

Anyone have any experience with it?

FWIW, that lens is not sold in the U.S.

Looks like it's on the Canon US Website now with an available date of March... I saw at another forum that the guess price is $300. Seems to be getting reasonable reviews.... Looks to be the first Canon lens that actually takes advantage of the crop to get a longer range better quality. Interesting IF it turns out to be a good lens.

I got a 55-200vr 4-5.6 Nikkor for $250 US so it seems comparitive. Nice lens for outdoor stuff but I still drool over the 70-200 2.8 VR.....Soon perhaps.....

LOL... So he gets the SLR and then the real expense starts :-) Yeah the 55-250 is not for me... too addicted to those fast primes :-) but I think it's a great option and nice to see them forced to compete with other makers.

Yeah... I know. But the 55-200 VR will help me wait. I have gotten some really good shots with it.
