I think that this is the right forum for this question, if not can you point me in the right direction???

I have an old F1 Canon, with this baby I have a 12mm, 5mm, 100-200- multiplier, auto extension tubes, macro to F50mm, something I have no idea what it is lens, a 70 meter lens, 300m slide duplicator and a 500 foot zoom lens and extension.

My question is, is there any way possible to use any of these pristine lenses with my Canon 400D????? is there any sort of adapter to the body of the camera to the lens. I know they will not be automatic, but I really can not go lugging about a 60 pound camera (ok not that heavy but....)

Any advice would be appreciated.

I can not advise you on an adapter of that sort, you may get an answer here.

What I can tell you is that the more space you put between a lens, and the plane of the sensor, or film plane, gives your image less detail, and not as sharp.

An adapter will add that space.

Just a thought.

The F1 uses the 'FD' mount system, rather than the newer EF mount that current Canon SLR models use, so you'll want to look for an FD-to-EF adapter, like this from from B&H.

Hmmmm, do you even think that it is a good idea to go down this path, or am I asking for trouble??

There are just so many brilliant lenes with this camera that it seems a waste to not use them, and I know I will not use the F1, well maybe on a rare occasion.

From the B&H link:

"The Bower Lens Adapter - FD (Manual Focus) System to Canon EOS (Auto Focus) Series Cameras allows the use of older (discontinued) Canon FD series lenses on Canon's EOS (auto focus) series cameras.

Unlike other simple mount adapters, this is an optical adapter which is actually at the same time also a short teleconverter, which increases the focal length by a factor of 1.25x, and reduces the lens aperture by approx. one f/stop. This adapter allows for focusing at infinity."

Pluses: it allows infinity focus, which a straight adapter won't give you

Minuses: lose 1 stop, increase focal length (effective) by 25%. That means your 12mm will be a 15mm, and then you have your 1.6 crop factor which makes it about 24mm equivalent. Wide, but not super-wide. Your teles, on the other hand, get longer, which is good.

If you can afford the $50 and don't mind working manually (which you shouldn't, it's good for you) then I'd say it's definitely worth it.
