You know there are a lot of people here that are relatively new to photography and you just told them that their best shot of last year is not up to snuff... Good for you. Parked in the handicapped parking lately? |

How about a "Reverse Challenge", whereas for two weeks, folks can choose any three photos on the site. The top three selected images overall win a ribbon (1st, 2nd, 3rd). There could be a web page(s) generated with thumbnails of all photos (but no identifying information) and voters could scroll through all the pages and select three of their favorites.
More than likely, the most selected images could have the same number of selections (there could be many popular photos that are chosen the same amount of times). These could be put in a "Finals Round" in the second week, where the same procedure is done again with the narrowed results.

My photo is blurry, and the sky is what I would normally consider overexposed; it rocks.
And it's bombing so badly I can't believe it :-)
But then I never said that anyone else had to like it. |

Whoa there...easy tiger... I don't think what he said came across that way, or he intended it to come across that way.
He's just commenting on the quality of images, not yours in particular.

Yeah, like me! No, I'm not new to photography, but sorry, I'm no insert name here of some DPC god. I'm so sorry to have inconvenienced you with my insignificant photograph. Sorry I wasted your time making you look at the awfulness that is my photograph. Sorry that you had to click that 1/2/3/4 or 5 key yet once again. I wish people would just get over themselves already. Every challenge there's some schmuck who has to start a thread about the awful low quality of the shots. If they are so bad, why are you still here. Go find a better site with better quality photographs. Really, I won't mind. |

Well, I've voted on about a third and I've never voted so many 8's before. The ones I'm being fed are pretty good. You must have looked at mine. LOL I notice that you've located about 15 miles away from me. Maybe we could have a Saturday GTG at the Bojangles in Creedmoor sometime. ;) |

With all that experience I'd have thought you'd be used to it by now Kelli. :) Like I told the poster, I'm impressed with how many I've seen out of the first third or so that I really liked. I don't think I've given that many 8's in a long time. His monitor might be un-calibrated. He might be using a laptop. He's definately just been here a couple of weeks. It takes a little longer than that to settle in and learn the DPC way. So with the bad, comes the good. Maybe one of yours was an 8 I gave. I left a few 9's too! |

Then you'll be happy to know DPC is a dictatorship. And you should be real glad I can't enter my maggot with wings for you to look at again.
heheheheheheheh LOL That's not only my best of '07, but the best ever
on DPC. Thanks for the laughs back in June.

I'm not mad. Just tired, I guess. LOL, I doubt I got one of your 8's or 9's. The thing is, I love my shot. I don't expect everyone else to love it. I don't get, nor do I look for high scores. Don't get me wrong, I love when I do get a decent score, it's just pretty rare. I just get frustrated that people seem to imply quite often that if you're not a pro, you don't belong here. I shot for myself (unless I'm shooting for someone who's paying me). I have fun here, but the fun wanes when you constantly see someone (and it's a different person each time) repeatedly say how beneath them the shots are they are being forced to look at. Every time I see one of these threads pop up about low quality challenge entries it makes me cringe. I have thick skin, but how many people simple leave after an entry or two because of these types of threads. I keep wondering if maybe I shouldn't head over to one of those pat you on the back type sites, at least the people aren't so mean. |

I don't think you'd be satisfied with that. But I used to belong to one I think you'd really enjoy. Daily Awards. I stayed almost a couple of years. I left because the owner feels the need to change the rules and practices about every 17 days it seems. They seem to be settled down in v2.0 right now though. They're getting more votes per image than they ever had. Some of the members here are over there too. Bunch of good people over there. |

I've just read this thread and can't believe it. Sounds like most of you only take 12 good pictures a year, and exactly one a month, so come January you've got nothing good from last year that hasn't been entered. Really now!
Frankly, I'm overjoyed with the "Best of 2007". I've been drifting away from DPC because I've been using more than one technique that weren't allowed under the rules in effect in 2007, but now are. In fact the only pictures I've got that are still not allowed are panoramas, which I also enjoy making. |

Originally posted by JunieMoon: I have been frequenting other sites this past year, and, well, in all honesty, I have been spoiled by them. The images are so much brighter at the other sites, with better detail and just more interesting. So far I have voted on 188 of the images in this challenge. I have NOT been impressed. I keep on saying "So when will I get to the good stuff?"
As to the other sites, I have been digging through my images from all my digital archives, have won lots of ribbons with them, so I am definitely feeling much better about my photography generally. |
Just so I have this straight, you find the quality of the photos on other sites you are on to be much better than that of dpc? But yet you dug through you archives and won ribbons on the other sites when you did not win any here?
Are you sure, and I mean no offense to you, that you do not like the other sites better because they are easier to get ribbons on and not necessarily better in over all submission quality? Or at least that they suit your style of photography better?

Good to know, I guess, but the unfortunate effect (the halos) are there no matter what the cause. The halos was the only thing I didn't like, BTW.
But shouldn't this be a private message instead of a forum post? Can't even say what is being discussed here.

I did not call out my entry or a specific commenter. If you did comment on my image you are not the only one to have made the comment about sharpening. I did not feel like sending 10 PM's :-P

Might be some other shot with annoying halos then. :-) I guess I'll find out next week.

Feel free to be disappointed in the technical quality of my entry.
Feel free to be disappointed in the compositional quality of my entry.
Feel free to leave constructive and helpful comments on how those could be improved.
But - there is nothing that anyone can say that will change my view that the photo I entered is *MY* best photo of 2007.

My sentiments EXACTLY about my image! I love it to bits, my favourite of '07, but others might not see it as anything spectacular lol
