I'm taking a college class where me and 4 other students have to create a "how to" on the speedlite 430ex. I have it but honestly don't know a lot about how to use it. We've decided that someone like me is our audience (meaning we don't need to explain how to put batteries in and turn it on and we won't get into basic photography). I've started doing some research and I can't find the manual either here at home or online. I'm beginning to understand the ETTL but confused about the M mode. Don't know what the symbols on the display mean and need help on what each of the buttons do. Our end product will probably be a web or PDF tutorial incorporating some short video of the speedlite in action and some photos as examples. we will probably limit the tutorial to using the 430 with the canon EOS rebel but may make sidenotes or references to other cameras.
Any help or links would be much appreciated |

I really appreciate the link to the manual!! Thanks. |

Yeah, I have one. I don't use it a lot. I prefer natural light whenever possible. When I have to use it, I invariably bounce it off a wall or a ceiling to diffuse the light.

So for the times when you do use it as a bounce do you put it in ettl or m? And what mode do you use on the camera? P, M, or Av/Tv? I think I prefer using Av/Tv depending on the situation but from what I've read so far the ettl mode doesn't work well in those settings so its better to set the camera to P or M.
btw, I actually prefer using available light too. But I've still got a lot to learn and I haven't narrowed down which direction I'm headed for a career with photography. I'm still experimenting and developing my style. |
