I think part of it is that you probably have to see the pictures big, magazine size, to appreciate them. I like the very last one a lot.

I was thinking you were stuck up...then I looked and now feel the same way! we must both be stuck up! ;)

Not impressed...lots here would give you a better crop of pictures given a week!

Sure, DPC has a lot of "wow" images, but...

Be sure to read the tips. Regardless of the images presented, the tips are good information for anyone looking to improve their photography.

It's probably because they don't do much photoshopping.

The photos that win ribbons here and the photos that win Pulitzer Prizes, garner critical acclaim and/or make a photographer "famous" are not always the same types of photos. Don't let your critical eye be swayed by the slick, the overly neat-imaged faces, the tack sharp focus and the photos devoid of character and emotion. It's true, though, that there are many DPC photographers that can produce photos just as worthy, if not more, than the photographers that are published at National Geographic. We have an incredible bank of talent here and I hope the world will one day discover it.

I doubt National Geographic sees photography as a competition.

I'm sure there are plenty of great shots that could be produced from here. I don't know if any of them are what they're looking for.

They impress me. They make the world smaller.

The National Geographic photographers go to the people to find the great pictures....they don't have the people come to the studio.

this is mostly because the stress there is more on substance of the photo rather than photoshopping skills. Here at DPC a nicely polished photo is likely to do very well, there it might not even get considered.
Personally I wish my photographs had more subtance to them, but for it I have to go around and find topics to shoot.
