I am noticing that in bright light, there is this weird arced stripe that goes across to the right of center for my images. At first I thought it was the zoom lens, but I notice it on the 50mm 1.8 as well. It's like the light is refracting off of the lens. I put on a hood and it changes nothing. Anybody have any ideas? I've not had it cleaned but that doesn't sound like a dust issue.

Post a sample so we can see what it looks like... it sounds like it *could* be impending shutter failure.

Sample photo?

It sounds like either a sensor problem, major dust on the lens, or you are just getting some unavoidable flare.

Can you show us a picture. Do you have a filter on the lens?

Idnic had a similar-sounding problem discussed in this thread, but she's taken down the samples.

Yup, sure looks identical to Cindi's problem. Shutter looks like it's on it's way out.

I'd call it a ghost or something and sell it to the tabloids. :)

Judy, I'm sorry to hear that your fav toy is getting ill. I bet you can get the details about what it takes to get it back in order from Cindi since she had the same a few months ago.
I had a scare this evening when one of my S3's started acting funny, but found that it was just a selector dial half way between settings. Whew! High pucker factor minute.

Well, it was a gift, and used so maybe I'll just jump on the bandwagon and upgrade. I'll check out what's out there. I only need the body since I have three lenses. I should go see the buy sell page.

But why only in bright light? Is it always there and I can't see it?

Maybe the smaller apertures are making it more evident in brighter light, and if it's mechanical, then higher shutter speeds would make the problem more evident as well.
