OK, I just got over a panic attack over so pics I had edited and figured out my problem...

My Spyder ColorVision Startup isn't loading on startup all the time. I can manually load it after startup by clicking on it in the "Startup" menu under Start Programs, but it's not loading on startup by itself.

Anyone know how I might fix this? I'm running Vista Home Premium. With a Spyder2XPress.

BTW, I have spyder2express selected as my default ICC profile under Color Control Panel, still doesn't seem to be doing what it should.

Hmmmm..... I was just going to suggest setting the default.

Do you get an error when it tries to load the profile? Do you have anything else loading at startup that could possibly interfere with the loading of the profile?

I dunno... my AVG (antivirus) doesn't seem to want to check for updates at startup either.

Appears to be a MAJOR problem with Vista!

Everyone using Vista... are you sure you're calibrated?

Glad you found an answer as in what's happening. Hopefully there's a solution.

I'm still using XP. I'll probably stick with it until I have to upgrade computers.

I've actually considered going BACK to XP, although I think this computer has a few drivers that are Vista only.

I calibrate my laptop with it. It runs Vista. Color profile loads on startup just fine

ETA: I just started it up to be sure and it loaded fine.

Yeah, mine starts up to, but then the profile changes.Wait to the computer completely loads, then clickk on the ColorVisionStartup in the Startup group. Anything change?

I thought mine was starting up too...

I'm having the same problem. My simple fix is to put the ColorVisionLoader (Spyder) shortcut on the QuickLaunch bar so that I can load the profile at will.

From the blog you referenced. How do you put the ColorVisionLoader on the QuickLaunch Bar?

Copied it from the Startup group in the Start Menu via a right click and pasted it to the Quicklaunch bar.

Just curious - could it be something to do with Media Centre ?
I replaced my computer about 3 months ago - decided I didn't want Vista because it may have problems with older programs. I put XP media centre on. I don't use it much (tends to be my wifes computer) - mainly use my laptop (also running XP).
Every month of so my laptop will tell me at startup that it hasn't been calibrated for a month and would I like to recalibrate. This is something my desktop doesn't do - although it hasn't been calibrated for 3 months. I was curious to why the desktop doesn't do this - it appears in the profile.
I figure it could be one of two things - the monitor (a samsung 226BW). It had a number of colour profiles with it - that as far as I know I disabled.
The other thing - the Media Centre Program. What a dog of a program ( but built into Vista I believe). This program wants to take over everything to do with media ( and I suspect calibration) and does it extremely badly. So I'm very suspect of it.
Could it be this that causes the problem in Vista ? I beleive it is an incorporated part of the OP.

seems to load fine for me. popup at startup says the profile has been loaded into the graphics card.

reloading from the startup folder doesn't change anything. win vista home premium.
nvidia gefroce 7300gs.

is adobe gamma loading at startup?

in the spyder2 settings you can tell it how often to remind you to calibrate. could be as simple as the desktop is set to 'never' or for longer than 3 months... but it should still load a windo at startup saying whether or not the profile has been loaded properly.

I have suspected that the calibration is turning off at times. I have seen it happen several times, once while loading PS CS3.

Leroy,

I have my spider2express on the quicklaunch bar now. When I click on it, it just wants to do a full recalibration. How do I get it to reset the gamma without recalibrating?
01/20/2008 09:35:38 AM · #17
did you copy it from the colorvision folder - or the startup folder ?

the colorvision folder has the calibration tool. the startup folder has the profile that's supposed to load at startup. might be called something other than spyder2express if you named it when you calibrated last.

No, I've only had CS3 on this machine, so Gamma was never installed.

This morning it loaded fine (likely just to try to prove itself) but it's not consistent.

I'm going to try to do some research today to see if it might be the ATI chipset.

If you go to Start > All Programs > Startup, there will be ColorVisionStartup. Right Click it, click copy, go down and right click somewhere on the click launch bar a click paste.

you have the most updated driver - i would assume.

you have to be sure there are no other color managing apps loading at startup.

have you upgraded the drivers for the ATI card recently? that might have a color managing app as part of an upgrade. something you previously turned off that is now back to on.

Actually, I just looked. There are more recent drivers available. Gonna try that.

I just upgraded the ATI drivers from the ATI site, not Dell's site and Spyder profile loaded on this reboot. I'm gonna reboot a few times and see if it fixed the problem. Thanks soup, never occurred to me to check the graphics driver.
