Question: Why not, if straightening is allowed, cropping is allowed, what's so different about perspective?
Perspective correction distorts the whole picture, not just a section of it. Of course, it becomes a section of the whole picture when you crop afterwards. But cropping is OK.

Sounds resonable to me. You are selecting the whole picture. Command (Ctrl) A (Select All) and then apply perspective. Sounds like applying it to the whole picture, just like a saturation adjustment. hmmmm

In PSP you have a sort of rectangle tool with handles at the corners and sides. You drag each handle to the corner of the feature that you wish to be rectangular. Then you apply. It changes the whole picture from a rectangle into a sort of rhomboid shaped picture. It does not change or distort just a part of the image, but the whole image. You will need to crop afterwards if you don't want the weird triangle shapes around the edges. Does that explain it?
How is it done to only part of the image? That doesn't seem to make sense. You couldn't correct a building that's slanted and leave the rest of the image intact, could you?

The general "guidline" used to determine if an effect is "DPC-legal" is if it changes the color of a pixel or moves a pixel. The perspective tools clearly move pixels around, and are therefore currently illegal. |

I'll remember that name for when I get a dog - it's a better name than "Buxtehude", which is my current selection.

i guess that answers my question. i had also assumed that since it altered the whole image it was legal. unfortunate really. |

I'll wear sunglasses, so people don't recognize me.

I guess, they wouldn't "move" relative to each other?
Come to think of it, when you use perspective correction, pixels aren't really being moved around. They stay nicely put, but there must be a bunch of new pixels put in to fill the gaps (or taken out). Something like that. But the original pixels wouldn't really "move" :))

Hmmm...
I reread the rules section on filters and it is very vague on this point. It says nothing about "moving pixels." In fact, filters meant to "preserve the integrity of the image" are specifically allowed. I would classify things like correction for lens distortion under "preserve integrity". Perspective correction may fall on the boundary, but I believe is to the spirit of this rule.
If I got DQ'd for using these (whole-image) tools, I would understand, but I believe that they fall within the rules. |

So, should I submit and take the chance?

I believe that we determined long ago that perspective corrections were NOT legal. It would be DQed. |

Don't worry, Heather, I won't do it, as tempted as I am. The rule seems a bit capricious to me, but I'm not a cheater (except when it comes to chocolate :)

My upcoming out-take for the Urban Landscape Challenge. I think I already have the right perspective.

Oops.
I did this without realising it was illegal in the monuments challenge a few months back. Can I delete my entry now?
