So, I went out this weekend to an arts festival and took my camera and smaller camera bag with me, but I ran into an issue! I could either access my camera bag or my purse! It was very frustrating indeed and I was wondering what systems other photographers use when carrying two bags (ladies purse or man-purse, I care not). Do you just take both and toss them into one ginormous bag, criss-cross the straps, or...?
Thanks! |

| My purse is about the size of my passport so it's not an issue. It fits inside the camera bag. |

| Oh, now that's cheating! I don't carry a large purse like some folk, but it isn't that small, either. |

| Those bags are cute! You better ask for a commission check, I think you may have help sell a few of them! |

| I just take my driver's license, a credit card, my AAA card, and some $$$ with me in my camera bag. I leave my purse (it functions as my briefcase and is about the same size) locked in the trunk of my car. I also use a safety pin to fasten my car keys to the inside of the camera bag, so I don't drop them. |

| I carry a large Vera Bradley bag that can hang over my shoulder. It's just big enough for one camera (30D) and an extra lens and has tons of pockets for personal stuff, lens cloths, extra batteries, etc. I've been using it for nearly 3 years and it's been invaluable. |

i use a lowepro teardrop shape camera bag - it's black, which is good. i carry my wallet in my hip pocket, my change in my front pocket, and anything else i need in the top compartment of the bag. you have far more patience than me carrying two bags!
while very pretty, those jill-e bags look remarkably uncomfortable. i suppose great for taking on a plane, going from studio to studio, but not much use outside that.

| I carry my essentials (credit card, gas card, AAA, drivers license, medical card and a bit of cash) in the holster pouch for my Treo. No purse needed, and it's out of the way on my belt. I don't carry a purse even when i'm not shooting. |

| for day trips, I use both a shoulder strap type small purse and a small camera bag. The camera bag has room for one extra lens, and the purse holds spare batteries, memory cards and sometimes a little camera. It distributes the weight around and I know exactly where everything is. If necessary, a larger LowePro stays in the car with everything else to delve into as needed. |

It sounds like most don't even carry the purse - just shove everything in the camera bag.
sfalice - do you carry both bags on one shoulder or are they small enough you can move them around? I found with mine I could only access one at a time and it was a pain to move them around each other. I think I might just need to get a huge bag and put my camera bag and purse into the same one so I can get into them. Either that or find a way to attach my purse to my camera bag with the little cargo clip things....
Edited to add: Here's me and my camera bag - in this shot, my purse is laying off frame on the side of the road and we weren't moving around much. My new bag is a bit smaller than this one - maybe half the size, but still not harmonious with my camera bag. (photo by my friend on an outing) Here

for me it works well. The purse sits under the camera bag on my right shoulder and I can access both easily with my preferred left hand. When walking, especially in crowded areas, I put the camera back in the camera bag after use. that way, I don't call attention to it. I do sometimes shift everything around when the load gets too uncomfortable. |

I have a giant bag that my camera bag fits into, as well as wallet, cosmetic baggie, planner, and all the other crap I carry. But! I don't always want to take the giant bag, so then I have the same problem of two bags.
I fling them both over my shoulder. But when I go shopping, say, I don't always want to carry the camera with me and then I leave it in the car - in the trunk - which is unnerving to me. What to do? |

I go the other way around. When I'm carrying my camera I grab my keys, wallet & other necessities from my purse and put them in the camera bag. I have a clip-on pouch (meant for snowboarders) that I attach to the outside of my camera bag with my drivers license, some cash, etc., that I might need to get to quickly.
Camera bag gets heavy, but I would much rather carry it than leave it in the car.... even for a few minutes.

Couldn't agree more ... I do exactly the same thing and would never leave the camera in the car ... grab essentials from my purse and deposit in the camera bag ... I've got a medium sized Lowepro that I take on smaller outings ... If I have to travel for work I've got a huge backpack that will hold all of my gear, laptop and has a top compartment that I can store my purse, sweater, magazines, water and snacks for the plane ... gets very heavy but works out great to keep my hands free ... |

Here's a practical photo of one of the Jill-E bags...
You can even buy a bag to match your own shoes! :-)

| Great photos, Les ... the only disadvantage for me is that it doesn't hold a laptop ... I checked the site and found that the larger ones do hold a laptop, but I don't want a rolling case ... I'll stick with my gigantic backpack for now! |

Sure have ... looks a lot like mine only missing the 40D ... sniff sniff ... I've got the Lowepro CompuRover and just love it ... they let me use that as my "purse" and I still take my rolling luggage as carry on ... don't ever have to check bags! |

I travel extensively and carry this bag, as well as a roll-a-board. Sometimes, I carry my tripod with me in its case (drawstring bag). I've never had my backpack searched, and I always carry everything on with me (makes it easier to switch flights, if necessary). :-)
