What do these run and does anybody have a good brand or model they recommend? I have a Manfrotto tripod and would like the rail to be able to double as a panorama rail which could put the camera in proper position to allow for panos with minimal parallax.

You absolutely can't beat the Really Right Stuff focusing rail; especially when you mate two of them so you have linear adjustment in precise increments in two planes. It's pricy, though.

Ya, $300 is getting up there. Hmmm. Other options?

Adorama has a 2-way focusing rail for $160 that looks pretty good. But I've never seen one in person.

I use a manfrotto rail (I'll check the model number when I get back home.

545 Rail

The only problem with it is the threads are a little course for use with the MPE-65 at x5 magnification.
I'd really like something with a finer thread.

I also want to mate it to a manfrotto 411 geared head as the ball head its currently on is a little difficult to position at high mag.

The model is actually 454 - it gets a vote from me. I use it with a 141RC three-way head (not geared though).
