Adobe Lightroom has successful processed 24,401 images from RAW (and a few PSDs) to 640 x X jpgs in one pass from a USB connect external HD. It's taken most of the day, but it did it without a single glitch. That's over 24 thousand images loaded at one time into the interface and exporting them with a resize operation and compression. Needless to say, I'm terribly impressed.

Man, I tell ya... getting a collection together for the Copyright office doesn't get any easier. Ahhh, software is making being lazy soooo much more easy :-D

I really don't think 24,000 RAW images get loaded into Lightroom at once. I'd bet most PCs today don't have the memory to handle that many. The metadata probably gets loaded (including the thumbnails).

I would speculate that Lightroom (if like other efficient applications that I've help develop) would then just iterate through each image via the metadata, loading the image "just-in-time" to process and save it, unloading it when complete and then continuing with the subsequent item.

Probably goes as you describe, but still impressed it could do it efficiently with that large of a set.

and in RSP it would have taken how much less time? :-) Try faststone and I suspect it would kill LR. You are also not counting the import time that happened before you ran the generate. Much as I like LR compared to the competition, it's still a pig.

Actually yes, I don't keep the library filled, so I had to import all 24,000+ images this morning. That surprisingly was done in a short time. I turned auto-tone off and imported with no tone settings.
