Kucinich 96%
I've heard about this phenomena - Obama came in second.
What really counts is who has the most face time and who the media likes - and who raises the most money, of course.

i used that candidate calculator to see who I ought to vote for if I were an American citizen and it gave me Kucinich by a whopping 91%.
I never even heard of that guy, but I think he must be a superstar! |

I came up Edwards so I went out and got me a $400 haircut and started bad mouthing Corporate America.
I think the election will be Edwards v.McCain.
Hilary and Obama might completely devour each other very soon. It's getting super ugly as we speak... |

I also tried the candidate calculator and to my surprise:
- Former Alaska Senator Mike Gravel (89.80% match).
- Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich (77.55%).
- New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (75.51%).
EDITED to re-post link.

I don't normally say this; in fact this is a question I would never have thought I would have to ask, but is it possible that you are underestimating the American public? I'm sure you can find people who will say this because they think it's funny, but to actually believe it requires levels of stupidity, paranoia and the kind of drug abuse that would have made Hunter S. Thompson recoil in disgust.
edit: Not that Hunter S. Thompson was stupid, but I'm far too tired to rearrange that sentence.

That would be Mr Slate.
Me, I am voting for Slippy......wait he's Canadian.
The calculator said I should vote for Joe Biden. Thats going to be a toughie now that he's dropped out. Oh well, Libertarian here I come.
The past few elections have made me a true cynic. I don't think the federal government can accomplish a thing anymore. Its full of knee jerk politicians that are only interested in having campain fodder for special interests when reelection time rolls around (Schiavo and the emergency session come to mind directly). Campaigns are no longer about who represents the will of the people, they are about who can misshape and alter their image as well as that of their opponents. Until we have true campaign and financing reform, as well as a return to the belief that politics is about serving your nation and its citizenry and not your own ego the people we elect will be career politicians. And a career politicians only interest is in protecting his career, not carrying out the wishes of the people he or she is elected to represent.

Are you kidding? I currently get e-mails from Republican friends already passing around information stating that he is linked to muslum extremists! They believe it. The problem is "Lack of thought process".

Isnt it a little sad that charisma would affect who we vote for. |

Very! That's why this country is in the pathetic condition it is. We rely the media to determine our values for us when awesome, honest candidates like Kucinich and Paul are diminished for their lack of "charisma". The truth is that these are the guys I'd want to invite to my house and have for dinner and conversation. They are intelligent and genuine; unlike the phony talking heads that are leading the race.
Funny, how most evil dictators seem to be overflowing with the stuff (charisma)!

The Candidate Calculator said Mike Gravel for me by a long shot. After reading up on him as I had no idea who he was previously, I agree with its results. |

I agree and disagree. Our president has to represent our country to the rest of the world. If he has the personality of a rock (which I think some candidates do -- in all parties), I'm not sure that goes over in the diplomatic part of his job. If he (or she) makes his (or her) own country cringe, what will foreign parties do? |

True, but cringeworthiness is relative. This man in charge of our country now not only makes me cringe, but I have to change the channel whenever he speaks, for fear of losing my lunch. Perhaps he was believed to have charisma and leadership qualities when he took the presidency, but I think he is (and has been) a tremendous embarrassment from day one.
I'm not saying that we should elect someone with the personality of a rock. Although the candidates I like have the reserve and steadfastness of a rock, unlike the next president the media will choose for us.
Paul and Kucinich actually have good personalities and senses of humor along with tremendous reserves of common sense. Yet, there has been a concerted effort to keep their messages from the mainstream. Give me a president with a good head on his/her shoulders, other than a pretty one, any day.

You couldnt of said it better.
I presonally prefer a technocrat who knows how to do his job. Now if hes not mr charming, or isnt a swanky dresser, well, thats unrelated to his policies and how they are implemented |
