| Sorry to hear about your loss Slippy. I believe it's probably the laptops only way of dealing with the processing of a blue ribbon. Alas. I suggest a mixture of 3.5 pounds of powdered aluminum mixed with about 5 pounds of iron oxide. Place in a ceramic box above the laptop and ignite with sparklers. Do this outside the house and not on the deck. Oh yeah, stand back. Nobody has to hold your beer. |

Flower pots tend to work nicely for this.

Ha! Only ff could suggest this (although it wasn't to anyone's surprise)! I vote for using the remains as a prop--of course, only if the models were worthy! LOL!

Damn, it's a drag not being able to relax on the living room couch with a laptop. Now this damn order tracker says it'll be Jan 31 before I get it. Blah.

| wow - that is actually fairly bad going considering it says it is already built... do they deliver their own stuff or contract that out? (might be a rollover from the x-mas rush if they have a limited delivery fleet) |

I think they use UPS? I'm hoping they're just managing my expectations, so I can be extra happy when it shows up in ten days. :-/

I have an inspiron 1100 with a battery that needs replacing. Not much of a laptop if it will only run for about 10 minutes off the battery. Not sure if its worth the cost of the battery though.
How did yours die? |

The graphics card died. The rest of it is OK, though, but not worth fixing. I was thinking about upgrading anyway, as I wanted a bigger screen and more speed. Will an Inspiron 8500 battery fit your laptop? I can send you mine, it runs for about an hour and a half.

It would definitely be a square peg in a round hole. Thanks for the offer though. |

Don't forget that you can sell it for parts on ebay. You can help some poor soul(s) whose laptops died from non-GPU causes. :) |

Booya, the wife just phoned and my new laptop has arrived! We have a date tonight, so I don't get to play with it just yet, but at least I can unbox it.

As I was reading this I thought for sure you meant you have a date with your new laptop!
Reminded me of the Dilbert cartoon
Liz: "Sometime I think you love that computer more than me!"
Dilbert: "Of course I don't love that computer more than you!"
Thought balloon: ‘Please don't ask about the laptop...’
Liz: "That computer?"

I've sold off the RAM and wireless card on eBay already. I'll probably put a pickaxe through the hard drive and find some fun project for the screen. Sorry. :-(

And to think... I have most of the parts if not all of them to make a Frankenstein.
I could have fixed it and sold it back to you for 4 times more than what you originally paid for it. :-) |

Thank you for your sympathies. |
Sorry - i find it hard to be sympathetic after reading that ;) |
Me too, you could have used this opportunity to get a real computer, a MacBook. Too bad XP can only access 3 GB RAM, that extra GB will get lonely. |
WTF!?!? I didn't think XP had a RAM limit! Assmasters! There has GOT to be a fix!?!?!?
According to this old (2004) Microsoft kb article, the 32 bit version of XP Pro has a limit of 4GB. I assume this extends to the Home version, as it is in the "this applies to" in the list at the end of the article. Is WinXP being handed out these days as 64 bit, or was I dreaming that? |
When you get the computer check out the properties screen, you'll see something like 3.x GB RAM. At least that how it is one every XP Pro Dell laptop here at work. |
3.25................. DAMN!

I want my last freeking 0.75 I paid for, Dell biotches!
