I won a laptop!!!

Totally out of the blue, courtesy of Ramco Software Training (I did a Dreamweaver course with them recently). For the curious types among you, it is a Dell Vostro 1500 - a heavy beast, but rather nice.

My question is about a thank-you note to them - I'd love to just send a pretty email, but I guess that isn't acceptable, right?

What about a home made card, using Publisher, printed on cardboard or glossy photo paper?

Or does it HAVE to be a store-bought card?

I think all three are acceptable, especially in this day and age.

But, a card does have some permanence about it. That route is probably the best, whether home-made or store bought. It is certainly acceptable (and often appreciated) for an artist to do it yourself.

you could give the laptop to me and watch how i go about accepting it and thanking you for it...

Write a letter by hand. Plain piece of paper (no lines). Plain envelope. There doesn't need to be any flashy emblems on either unless you have an official family coat of arms you regularly use.

If you can't write straight, take a piece of paper with lines on it and put it underneath the one you are writing on so you can see the guide lines through it.

Congrats on the win - what's the eBay ticket number?!

Thanks for the input, Leroy. Forget it, Chris.
Sam, don't say by hand...... my handwriting is awful!! Surely at least typed and signed (by hand) is ok?

I think I'll pick some nice little flower photo and make up a card myself.

Re ebay - forget it, I have been wanting a laptop for ages. So far, I've only had an old secondhand one, complete with dented corner and scratches all over the place.
I'm thrilled to bits to have a new one, even though it would have been nearly heavy enough to use as a boat anchor for the Queen Mary!

Congrats on the laptop! And I'm VERY impressed that you're taking the time to send a Thank You note of any kind! It's a lost art, I fear. Good for you!

I knew this was a question from a female - please take that as a compliment! - This is definiitely a generalization (stereotype etc) but I just think most guys would AT MOST send an email and think nothing more of it. I think cards have even more value than in the past - because they are rare!

There's a great store near me that sells "fair trade" type stuff and they have some great cards that are made by artisans in troubled countries ... always a nice thought. OK - that was probably about 24 more words than anyone cares to read. Congrats BTW!
