I'm going to be doing field work for my company, upgrading some computer equipment in the northern new jersey area, and i'll also be spending a few days on long island...

anybody out there from these areas that could recommend a few good places such as zoos, parks, scenics spots etc? camera stores as well ;)

i always liked the view from the hoboken ferry pier. Its not the skyline view you see so much in all the standard ny shots (like from down towards the wtc), but imo is very impressive both during the day and even more so at night. if your on the manhattan side, the pier jump off point is near madison square gardens on the water side - sorry i can't give you better directions.

If you make it out to northern Passaic County, the Monksville Dam, Wanaque Resevoir areas in Ringwood can offer some beautiful vistas. Just don't get caught crawling throught the security fence!

A little bit tamer although well shot are the areas along the Hudson. In Weehawken is Alexander Hamilton Park on River Rd. which gives glorious panoramas of Midtown, and Liberty State Park in Jersey City offers views of Lower Manhattan, a historic railway terminal, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Islands. If you can get near the approaches on foot (security is probably tighter since 9/11) you can get some great shots of the George Washington Bridge, and underneath on the NY side is "The Little Red Lighthouse" of Golden Books fame.

Hope these help.
