Hey Everyone!!
First off this is a great cam! But wayyyyyyy more than I can handle at my stage in photography! (you were right John{turbotec} but I will learn)
I've had all the focus problems that everyone on this site joked about the am-cam jockeys having. I'm working them out as I learn the cam. I seem to need more light for sharp pix with this cam than I ever did with my old P.A.S. but less grain in lower light and less DOF.
Another problem I'm having is framing. I'm still not used to the view finder being exactly where the pic is framed and am still compensating for the view finder being off. I'll be fine after the first 500 or so pix.
All and all this feels like real photography. I have a greater control now (I don't know how to use) and endless possibilities.
Here are the first few pix with the cam

nice work!
dont forget that you can raise your ISO and work in lower light, and pay less of a noise price than you would with most other cams out there. You won't even really start to see any noise until iso 800!

Ugh... I'm SO jealous. I'm glad you're posting your frustrations beacause I want to know all I can before I plan on buying a Sony dsc f717 or Canon Digital Rebel.
Have you printed with it yet? And yes what lens do you have? |

the canon digital rebel seems like a pretty good camera for the money
i wonder why its so much less than the 10D for instance
it weighs 1/2 as much as the 10D
same resolution
same autofocus options ( 7 point )
seems to have a decent metering set up
manual or auto functionality - one thing i havent been able to find is if the rebel has a bulb function...
all in all seems like a very similar camera for 1/2 the money
got to get one, i am sick of this junk i have been using.
and miss the SLR options of my old canon AL1
upset i cant use my lenses on the digital cameras.

That compared all the features to the 10D. And it does have a Bulb mode.

the limitations seem to be software based... seems to have the same software as the 10d, only cut down a little... the body is where the real difference is in this camera. the 10d is very rugged, and when you hold the rebel digital, you see the difference right there..
if i could afford it, i'd get the rebel digital for sure, as i don't really need the extra features or the extra ruggedness of the 10d.
congrats to you! happy b-day :)

cool - thanks for the links
going to compare them this weekend
but cant really afford either ;)
the 300D is soley autofocus? that seems wrong - maybe just misunderstading the comparison table...
i have never shopped for a camera - have had the AL1 i own since i was 12 - dont want to make a rash decision
got to make it happen though - this kodak thing sucks
i NEED an upgrade
Happy B-day BTW

you can manual focus with it as far as i know. i can't imagine a dslr with only auto-focus on it. you turn AF on/off with a little switch on the lense

yeah auto/manual focus
i went and checked it out last night
pretty nice camera
very light- see that the casing is pretty feeble
but that just mean be careful with it.
the manual focus set up up is a bit strange - at the very end of the lense - not sure i like the way that is set up - but could probably adjust to it.
now just need to find the cash to buy it..
