Okay, what am I doing wrong? I downloaded a bunch of free brushes, unzipped them, put them in the brush folder, and opened PS CS3 expecting to see them in the brush list. Nope! When I try to manually load brushes, I can see them in the list of brushes to choose from, but only one (clouds) will load, regardless of which one I select. Anyone got a hint for me?

The whole thing irritates me anyway, because I had a bunch of brushes before I upgraded from CS to CS3... And they disappeared. Or are they hiding somewhere that isn't obvious that I should look for them?

Help's appreciated! I'm about to give up for the evening :)

After you've saved the brushes to your PS folder, you still need to load them into PS. So.... open an image, select the brush tool, right click the image to get brush tool pop-up. Look for the TINY arrow beside the brush size box, click that. Now choose load brush & find your new brushes in your folder. Then you're set.

For CS3, do this:

You don't have to have an image loaded or anything--just follow the three steps illustrated in the image above (click on it to enlarge it).

Thanks guys... I tried both ways and unfortunately the brushes still won't load. Looks like another call to Adobe in the morning :)

Maybe the other brushes aren't compatible with CS3? How old are they? Maybe you have to be in a certain "mode" (e.g. 8-bit mode and not 16 or 32)?

Good luck...and let us know what you find out.

Okay, since you asked to know... I got so frustrated last night that I shut everything down and went to bed. Haven't messed with it all day. This evening, bada-bing, there are the brushes. Sometimes letting a problem alone really does fix it. :)

We software engineers have a phrase for that...

"Problems that go away by themselves, come back by themselves." :-(

At any rate, that sounds like you are back up and running. Enjoy!
