Can't let Langdon have all the fun with enhancements, so give this one a try. You'll find it at the bottom of my DPCmod page. It enhances voting in two ways:
- Most importantly, as you're judging an image, it preloads the next image, so you're not killing time watching every JPEG load. (Langdon, you could add this in one line of code, should you want to).
- Secondly, L's update scrolls the screen to the top voting numbers. I prefer scrolling right to the image, so that's what it does. (Note that IE may not do this correctly.)
The main difference you should notice is that the next voting image is ready immediately, not loading up while you wait. Let me know what you think.
Cheers,
-Jeff
PS:
While some may say that making voting faster/easier encourages bad voting, I disagree. This doesn't reduce consideration time, it reduces waiting time.
Note that if you vote too quickly, the next image will not have time to preload, and you'll lose that benefit. On a fast internet connection, it takes roughly 1-2 seconds to preload, so if you consider your current image at least that long, your next image will be ready. I find that it works swimmingly, if I may say so. =)

Nice one.
Does this work in conjunction with or separate to the Options given to us by the site? Ie do we disable the site preferences to make this work? |

The one titled "Voting Enhancements" is a new mod and has nothing to do with keyboard voting, thus it works in conjunction.
The old one "Keyboard Voting" should be uninstalled.

He said to remove/uninstall his keyboard voting mod btw - it stopped working properly when the new "high visibility" numbers came in... |

Works great for me (Firefox/Greasemonkey). The preload is a fantastic idea! Thanks, smurfy. One request - can you make the jump-to-the-top-of-the-image part separate (or a turn on/offable option)? It freaks my eyes out for each page to jump up a little bit when it loads. |

You can disable that easily by editing the script:
- Right-click the monkey, and select Manage User Scripts
- Select the DPC Voting Enhancements script
- Click Edit (and choose an editor - wordpad or notepad should work fine)
- Comment out the last line in the script with //, so that it looks like this:
// scrollTo(null, 120);
- Save the file and you're set!

Little evening bump, given that two new challenges go into voting in a couple hours. =)

I just noticed that on my work machine. Doesn't seem to be an issue at home. Both running XP Pro. |
