....how I can have 76 views on a picture but only have 4 comments and 1 favorite? Isn't it amazing how I haven't been on DPChallenge in over a week and still there is not even 1 extra comment? Not trying to be annoying but its crazy and I just find that "amazing". I think their should be a rule, if you view a picture you should have to comment on it. How can anybody learn or grow if they are getting no feedback.
This is the picture of mine that got the best feedback,

I should be loading more pictures soon, as soon as I can get to walmart to copy my pictures to a cd (I lost the loading cord to my camera). Maybe I will get more feedback this time! :), Hopefully, either way I guess in time stuff like that will come. I guess I can't just join a site and expect all that to happen right away, it is just alittle frustrating.

4 comments on 76 views is incredible. I do not understand what you are complaining about.
01/05/2008 06:22:29 PM · #3
I've had pictures with that many views a NO comments, so YAY! you got four comments!

I agree with BAM, 76 views and 4 comments on a non-challenge image is pretty good going really. If you want some more comments meet us halfway and enter a few challenges!
01/05/2008 06:32:53 PM · #5
Of my 14 non challenge images, I have 369 views, 1 comment and 0 favorites.

Not one of my image has even that many views. I would KILL to have a comment or even a favorite.

You have nothing to complain about.

I guess this thread could become the 'whats the most views without comment' thread?

332 views, 1 favourite and no comments.

Card readers are relatively inexpensive, and will be cheaper in the long run than frequent trips to Walmart and paying for CDs.

If you want comments, but aren't ready to enter a main challenge, consider joining a side challenge.

im sure if you posted something asking for advice or thoughts on a photo people would be glad to contribute. and how honest do yhitnk people would be if they were forced? doesnt that cheapen the experience?

it would be cool if we could send an image to the critique club without entering a challenge.

That ratio is great actually.

Looking at my own portfolio, and arranged by number of views,
the following being just the first 15 non-challenge pics shown:

Comments____Views______Favorites
3____________4253___________1
0____________3963___________0
32___________3881___________2
3____________3336___________0
1____________2921___________1
8____________2659___________1
0____________2458___________0
0____________2412___________0
0____________2334___________0
0____________2211___________0
15___________1528___________13
9_____________878___________0
2_____________867___________3
1_____________807___________0
9_____________776___________2

76 Views and 4 comments is pretty good.

I would join a challenge but I haven't been able to lately, with work, no cord, not having a car, etc, its kind of hard but hopefully soon. I was just starting to feel that maybe my pictures suck, I know Im not the best....I wish I could just be a good photographer, I guess im too eager.

Time is an excuse, desire and attitude are enablers.

Get a card reader, as was mentioned earlier.

I've done some of my best work in my house, and many people here have ribboned multiple time without leaving theirs.

Your pictures will only get better with practice, so find a way to take more pictures and you'll get your wish to be better. Starting with the 30day "where you live" side challenge seems like a good fit at the moment ;)

I agree. Two of my five highest rated shots were done at home. One is of an ugly, old, over-grown cactus that has been sitting in our window sill for years, but I managed to find its good looking side and got a 6.25 score for my efforts.

Added during editing: Should also mention that the lighting consisted of a $15-20 pole lamp from Target plus the overhead lights.

My very highest rated photo was a close up of a balloon lit only by the overhead light on my stove. Use your imagination and you will come up with some incredible stuff. Play and have fun, do not take it to seriously.

Your posted shots show a good eye. Your shot of the footprints probably got a few comments because it is a unique view and has a lot of interesing texture. I also like it a lot. The trick is to figure out what was right and to apply that to other shots.

Best way to get comments and feedback is to participate and leave comments yourself. I have made a point of commenting on almost everything I vote on. Very often someone will then go check out my portfolio after seeing my remarks and leave a comment on something that stood out to them.

And I agree that once you work on developing that eye, you will be able to find an interesting shot almost anywhere. I find commenting on others photos also helps in that regard, because it forces me to think about what makes it a good or mediocre shot. I recall hearing about a skill building exercise where you lock yourself in the bathroom and don't allow yourself out until you find 100 things to take a photo of.

That was great work with existing items. I just went and looked at which one that was. I had given it an 8.

Anita,

I just had a good look at your profile. I recognize you as someone who had been on this site quite some time ago and got frustrated and left. It seems you were overly anxious for comments back then as well.

From someone who has been here a long time, I am being completely honest with you when I say, you have to pay your dues. No one comes to this site knowing it all and getting dozens of comments on every photo entered. You do not have many shots in your portfolio, if you work at it hard, you someday will. Its easier to comment on a persons portfolio if there are lots of photos to choose from.

With digital photography it costs nothing to play alot with your camera and your processing. Practice will make you a better photographer, and in turn people will be happy to comment.

After having said all that, joining a side challenge will give you enough comments to keep you smiling all day.

Excellent point. One of my most heavily commented pictures was from a side challenge. I need to participate in more of those.

I agree that the more you shoot the better you will get, you will not get better without shooting. I would also suggest that you get to looking at others photos and see what works and what doesn't, then ask yourself why you like the picture. If you feel like it you can leave a comment on the photos you browse through, alot of times people will comment back on one of your shots. The more people see your name the more likely they might go to your portfolio and have a look around. You can even start a thread from time to time asking for comments on a shot or two, people here love to offer help and critique. Last but not least, as stated above, have fun. Trevor~

Even more annoying, my freestudy has so far had over 270 views with only 25 comments, so that means LESS THAN ONE IN TEN has commented on my image.. thats kinda sucky

;-)

With 25 comments, and you're ribbon record, I'd think your score would make up for the apparent dearth of comments. :P

I was thinking when I saw this post that Simms just isn't given his due, only four favs and 25 comments, how do you get by on that rubbish?:)

As Ecce Signum suggested...we should change this forum around to the "Whats the most views without comments" forum, lol. Start a new thread that has never been done before! :) I have many!!!
