I never heard of a fugue before......P&S or DSLR?

I forgot to add that I was also surprised at the lack of nikons. Maybe those aren't considered classical? I do believe fugues are P&S's, though very refined ones. :-)

Thanks, don, for the only positive comment on my free study - and being the only one who gets it so far...

still languishing at 4.9

Happy new year, everyone!

Deb, nice feather work. :) Jelena, very nice restoration! You're giving your family quite a gift with your efforts. Patty, I'd say snow is ice. Ice is just frozen water, in all its forms: snow, slush, sleet, hail, black ice on the road, icicles, frost, and ice cubes.

And Jeb, I'm glad you're still around.

I am very disappointed in my Free Study ... Why? Well, it's at 6.8875, and was as high as 6.995 for a lot of my day :) :) I'm pretty psyched (in case you couldn't guess, and if you didn't pick up on it, the "disappointed" was a joke).

WOW! WOW! WOW! Sometimes I think TS is a bit too focused on low scores. I'm surprised no one picked up on this and congratulated you before now, so I'll do so.

Don't leave just because of the advanced rules. If you don't like the new stuff, just don't use it.

Anyone have some examples of shots used with an Extension tube?
I just bought a Nikon pk-13, 27mm tube and I am excited.

If any members have some examples they took I would love to see them.

If it is as nice as I hope, maybe I'll call it my "Sexy Extension Tube" in honor of our leader.

Yep, all of my macros have been shot with extension tubes. Here are three of 'em:

Well I'm back in the hunt with something in Spectacles. I know for a fact that it will meet the suckness that I have come to know and love. My back is healing and my hubby says that I'm back to normal what ever that means :)

I think that roughly translates into "You can make your own damn soup now!" Or something like that. :-)

Are you sure it doesn't mean "Go make me some damn soup!"?? Just asking :P Glad you're feeling a bit better, Rosemary.

Jeffrey, thanks for noticing :) it's up since then, too :) Just call me the Cheshire cat :) As for the rules, most days I like DPC for the challenge of it; if I have to compete with images that approach the old expert rules, and don't have a chance to just clean up my images and have them taken seriously, it won't be much fun. I just see it as a very, very different playing field, and not one that I'm particularly excited about playing on. I would stay on and enter non-member challenges, once each week, most likely with basic editing rules. That more suits my "style" (whatever that is). And of course I would hang out here :)

Jeb, glad you're sticking around. Here on TS we don't seem to mind people being, well, people (which is why I stay).

Hey...I have a (very) random question...
When you're typing a reply or something, and you're putting another members name in ..how do you make it a link that you can click on?
01/04/2008 10:04:41 PM · #484
Click on that "little person" icon above the message box (last one on the right) and a window will pop up that will allow you to enter a username, hit enter and it's done; or, select the name if you already typed it (click and drag across the name so that it's highlighted), then click the same icon.

Well, my hopes for a 6+ in the Free Study never came to fruition, c'est la vie, BUT....

I got a fav, and that's a first for me in one!

I'm not as disappointed as I could be......if I scored above a 6, I wouldn't be able to participate in Deb's "I really love my shot." gang.

I'm now just hoping to stave off Steve formerlee in the Marathon to win the revered honor of having the highest ranking of anyone who didn't break 6.0 the whole freakin' year!

BTW, this was 2nd choice for my Free Study.....anyone wanna tell me if they think it would have broken 6?

my FS has dropped down to 5.88, so not likely to make the 6 either.

That is a beautiful shot Jeb. that might have done it.

Yeah......this isn't an outtake, it was a rejected entry.

It's nothing like my entry.

Actually.....you should know that.

I just finished voting and commenting on object isolation by contrast. I was blown away by the great shots in that challenge. I ended up giving out 5 ribbons instead of 3. I just couldn't not give all 5 a ribbon. And there were plenty of other great shots, too. I hope I commented on some suckers.
01/05/2008 01:06:54 AM · #490
It was a particularly nice challenge to vote - I should go add a few to my favs, now that you mention it. And yes, I got a comment from you - thanks! (No ribbon, though. That lofty goal still eludes me.)

I'm doing quite nicely in object isolation and considering I predicted a 4.2 for this one I conclude that i shouldn't make predictions on my shots, ever.

I'll be a bit sad to see my Minimalism II shot go from my home page,I love this shot though.

Oh and all it not lost I am sucking along in Free study and the commentators are anonymous, they think it sucks.

I had the first entry in for free study this month, odd because I don't normally bother with FS but I absolutely love the shot, it's something I haven't really done before and the processing was a nightmare. I so wished I could ask for advice on it. Oh and I'm in Time Lapse, I think I'm legal but I don't care, again it's a shot that I loved. It's been a fun week , it seems so long since I shot anything I even liked.

I've entered Time Lapse. I have absolutely no idea how it will be received by the voters. I too hope it's legal. I don't think I committed any sins with this, but who knows, the rules are new.
01/05/2008 12:50:57 PM · #493
I am entering nothing this week. Not even one of the challenges interests me in the least. I guess I will just be a voter. Once in a while it is good to sit out the challenges.
01/05/2008 12:52:55 PM · #494
I'm a no-go on challenges this week as well. Maybe something in the next batch?
01/05/2008 12:53:49 PM · #495
I'm not sure if I'll enter anything this week or not. I've got a couple of ideas, but I don't know if I have the energy to do anything.

You must be really wiped out, Lea. Are things beginning to return to normal around your house? Of course, I know they won't ever be the same, but has your daily routine smoothed out a bit? I hope so. I think of you a lot.

The kids are kind of forcing me to go about a typical routine, which is probably a good thing, as on my own, I don't think I'd be doing that yet.

Thanks Juli, but remember photos do not always tell the truth. I am only 5'6" tall, and I like that photo because it gives the (mistaken) impression that I have arm muscles!
