Take it back and get a Zune if you're that unhappy. Then you can start a thread about what a POS the Zune is.

My 3 Zunes, an 80G and (2) 30's haven't had any issues. Well their not touch screen but they organize tunes, vids, podcasts and photos nicely.

@-> Beetle sorry to hear about your McTechnology woes...

So you've bought half the total Zune sales for 2007? ;-)

I love my itouch--- and I didnt even hack it...

It is what it is--- Not meant to be a portable gaming console-- Get a PSP, that will do it for ya..

Its got a great screen!! Itunes is not organized good, but heck thats just playlists, Its organized great on my Itouch after I sync, and when I listen yo music On my PC, I browse my Music Folder, that has everything organized perfectly---- Itunes like I said Is just playlists, it doesnt rearrange your music on your Hard Drive--

And Im addicted to you-tube on Itouch-- its so much fun,, The Safari browser gets a bit getting used to cuz everything is so small, but its fine after you get the hang of it..

I agree I was kinda perplexed on the phot resizing thing, in fact I even made a post about it a few days ago..

Photo ?

But I can Live with it..

It exploded my 26MB of resized test photos into 300 MB!!!
Major rip-off, since that means the ipod actually has less than 10% of its supposed (and already small) capacity.
2. It added the huge 300MB folder to my computer, too! If I could fill the 16GB, I would end up with nearly 20 extra GBs on my computer for nothing!
3. Seems to do the same with music files, as well.

Aside from the file size/capacity issue:

4. There are no games available for offline playing, only online stuff.
5. CanĂ¢€™t delete photos or songs off the iPod without the computer and the synch process.
6. It can only synchronize photos ONE layer deep, i.e. everything has to be put into ONE special folder just for the iPod. It is impossible to ADD from other locations, as it only replaces photos instead of adding albums!
7. CanĂ¢€™t synchronize calendar without Outlook.
8. iTunes is a disaster, my music is all in one big pile now, gone are my organized folders :-(

P.S. $400 (plus tax) and not even a soft case or a dock Ă¢€“ very sad.

I don't know about photos on an iPod Touch, got one for my daughter for Christmas and it took about two minutes to swap over from using her old iPod. Can you turn off the 'optimising' of the photos in iTunes preferences?

Of the few iPods we've had between us in this household, I cannot remember being able to delete a song on the device itself. It's always through the computer synchronisation process.

As I recall, you can get iTunes to keep your music organised in folders via one of the preferences settings. Under the 'Advanced' tab, there is a button for 'General' settings. You can even get iTunes to copy the music to its own folder, rather than move it.

Same as Buzz, the best gadget i`ve ever bought, and i`ve had a few :-)
Itunes is a pig and takes alot of getting used to. I`m forever syncing and deleting loads of stuff.

I also thought i could load up 1000`s of photos resized to DPC size about 100kb each but it upsized them again to nearly 1mb each. So there is no point resizing, best just to go with the original photo.

I jailbroke my touch for some extra features but it got really buggy so i restored it and will wait for the official updates.
I tried the nes emulator but without real buttons it`s useless.

Oh nuts my son was logged in :)

I never use the syncing between my ipod and itunes I just use the manage manually method and have never had problems deleting tracks just from my ipod

You can add your own movies, as long as they're in a video format, and not the flash-stuff that youtube uses. Just as iTunes can support and store movies, any MPEG or Quicktime movie you load will be transferred to the touch.

Sorry Melissa, no deal. I still have another 10 days to make up my mind (I can return it within 2 weeks for a full refund).

Like I said earlier, I adore the gadget itself, and I don't know of anything else (and I do NOT want a phone) that will do music, photos, videos, calendar, contacts AND a web browser all in one very sweet looking package.

Currently I am leaning towards keeping it and hoping that future updates and/or hacks will fix at least some of my problems. The rest I'll just have to live with.

One of the relevant rumors:

"Another possibility for Macworld is the announcement of iPhone and iPod touch games, according to the analyst. He says it's likely that Apple will make games available on those multi-touch devices as it has with the original iPods, but the timing of the initiative is not clear.

"Rather than simply porting iPod games over to the touchscreen devices and making them available for purchase in the iTunes Store, we believe Apple is developing a new class of games that will make special use of the touchscreens," Munster told clients. "While such an announcement would be relatively insignificant, on a high level it is important to keep in mind that the iPhone has many capabilities that are not being fully utilized, and unique touch-based games are one example."

The Piper Jaffray analyst expects Apple will regularly update the iPhone with new features every few months, including an important update in February when the iPhone is opened to third-party applications. "At this time we also expect Apple to introduce contextual searching on the iPhone similar to Spotlight in Leopard," he wrote."

I've used PhotoDex ProShow Producer to create a Video slide show for my iPod Classic 160GB. That worked okay, I haven't tried putting any photos on it, yet. I think my 3-year-older 80GB iPod, showed separate folders with mp3 files and didn't require synchronizing.

I know that a few years ago a Creative Labs Zen, was easy to use, just like a Hard Drive with Folders, and NO restrictions. The new iTunes has taken away some of our freedom, in the name of anti-piracy.

our poroblem with the iTouch is that my son added a bunch of songs from his girlfriends pc on iTunes, then we connected it to my laptop on iTunes to add some videos and the only way it can sync to my pc is to unsync from the other "library" (which means to delete the entire itouch and start over on our computer). That's insane. I should be able to add things to it at home, the library, the internet cafe, etc.. How can they limit the iTouch to being used on only ONE PC?

As far as the use, we love the internet on it, the mp3's sounds great... haven't added any photos yet.. but still working on syncing it with iTunes.

btw, my other son has an ipod nano... and I even though my Sansa isn't colored or a touch screen or made by apple, its better than both my kids mp3 players, at a quarter of the cost.

Thanks....that would have been a 'future' question, as I just used my saved 'touch' money on a down payment on a new Escape...now I have to save again!

Apple is ignorant. If I buy the music from iTunes and put it on my iTouch, then take my iTouch to my friends and copy those songs onto her pc, thats not Apple's concern, I bought those audio files... so anti-piracy as an excuse doesn't fly with me.

It is the record companies' concern and they dictate the rules. Apple is a lot of things, ignorant isn't one of them.

I guess this falls under ones interpretation of copyright infringement. (even though this is NOT what we are doing). I consider buying a cd, dvd, audio file, etc, mine with no limitations. No one at the store or iTunes has me sign an agreement stating that I own this under "certain guidelines", I feel I OWN it, I paid for it. If I want to allow my friend to borrow my new dvd then this is not infringement since it is hand to hand, but if I want to dvd2ipod then ipod to her pc, this is. Its all weird.. Technology has surpassed our legal system and made it where simple things, harmless things, are now considered theft. *Runs to rip tag off mattress*

Anyway... what I was saying earlier... we aren't trying to do this (piracy), what we are trying to do with the iTouch is add music here and when he is at his girlfriends. I should be able to connect my equipment anywhere I want and use it, not have to choose 1 place to add/manage my files. Does that not make sense? or am I insane?

Actually, every time you buy a CD/DVD etc... you are purchasing it with "certain guidelines". If you read the fine print on the back of any CD/DVD it specifically states that the content is for private use and reproduction in any form is copyright infringement. If you buy only one copy and then make copies and give them away or sell them it is considered piracy. That is why so many people that used napstar were sued... and lost.
