Hi everyone. On christmas day eve, I was treated to a wonderful full moon over the Newport Bridge in Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. Unfortunately, I have yet to be able to master a good shot. Would it be possible to post a couple and get some feedback on them. I am close, I just do not know what I am doing wrong to get a clear nice shot of the moon above or behind the bridge. i can get a clear moon with a darke everything else. I can get a clear everything else but a flared up moon that looks more like a spotlight then a moon.. lol
Thanks in advance....
and Happy New Year!

Sounds like a lot of the shots that I get of the moon! :)
I fixed my "flared up moon" by making sure my tripod was super stable.

Here's my moon. Maybe it's not what you're wanting. If it is, let me know I may be able to give you a little more advice.

You will most likely need to a composite photo where you merge two together in order to get the proper exposure. The Moon is very bright and takes shutter speeds comparable to a sunny day at the beach, very fast. The rest of the scene is a night scene and will require much longer shutter speeds, thus causing the moon to blow out. Take two photo, one exposure for each the moon and the landscape, then merge them to gether in PS. Hope that helps. Trevor~

That's pretty normal. The moon is WAY brighter than it's surroundings, so you're going to have to do two different exposures in order to get what you want. Then you can HDR them together or just lay them on top of each other and erase out what you don't want.

Or maybe there's not my moon. Oh well, it's on my page if you want to look. Go ahead and post yours. I'm sure there are plenty of people around that can help you.
