So, basicly, what I am reading is, I need to balance the light from the back to the front, close down my shutter, try a different angle for the flare, and get some better glass... that about cover it?

Now, balancing the light shouldn't be TOO tricky, as I have a lot of constant shoot throughs and some clamp lights and a huge reflector... I will try f11 and go up from there... angles may be an issue with me shooting myself but I will figure that one out... I will try with and without circ polarizer & UV filters in every situation... and I suppose I should ditch the kit and try with my 70-300mm because it DOES take slightly better photos even though I must be further back :)

Whew!!! This is the day for work I see :)

or maybe a good portrait lens like the 85mm I have. Wanna come down and practice with it? I will push the shutter button or pose if needed.

changing lenses can have a pretty significant effect on your ability to catch lens flare. That's really the toughest part of what you are doing.

if all you want is just the sun in the back and you in the front, that's fine it's not tooo difficult, but catching lens flare can be very, very tricky. moving a few inches can make a big difference, depending on your lens.

Lens flare is often found with the sun just off the edge of the frame.

If you are farther away, using a flash on-camera might be very difficult. It's pretty easy to make your own pc-sync extensions. You can even make one that uses a regular extension cord if you have a long one.

I think with the 400D, you would need a hotshoe to pc-sync adaptor as I don't think the Rebels have them standard.
