Well...after having used, or not used for that matter, the Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens for the past 2 months; I've decided that this isn't the lens for me. I've put maybe 40 images (probably less) through it and instead of having a nice, pretty $650 paperweight on my desk...I've decided to let it go.
Now with that said, I've decided to use the money I get from selling the lens to invest in a studio light set up which is something I know I'm going to use. Here's what I have in mind so far:
2x - Alienbees B400 Flash units
1x - 60in Shoot through/bounce umbrella
1x - 48in shoot through/bounce umbrella
2x - 10ft general purpose light stands
1x - Hot shoe to PC adaptor
Adds up to $625ish
I'm planning on using my Sigma EF500 Super as a background light.
Now here's the advice part:
1.) Is there anything else I should look at getting?
2.) Is there something different you'd get from what I wrote above?
3.) Are there any other brands you guys would recommend other than Alienbees?
4.) How much do you think I could get for a more or less brand new Canon 10-22mm (bought in November, mounted on camera twice) with hood and in brand new condition?
5.) Where's a good place to get backgrounds from for a decent price?
Thanks in advance,
Sameer

Here is what I can say. For the lens. They hold there value well and the 10-22mm never seem to last long. B & H has it for $639 brand new because of a rebate.
B&H
So I am not sure if you can get more than that.
I usually see them used for around $600 used.
What you are looking at light kit wise is what I have:
Alien Bee Kit
I would recommend getting the wireless stuff as well. But you only need one transmitter.
I enjoy my kit and am setting a new resolution to start using them more. A month ago I would have traded you but I have now convinced myself I need these lights and am about 80% there on convincing the wife I need that 10-22mm Lens as well.
For backgrounds I have recently bought some paper backgrounds from B&H and they are reasonable. Like $39.95 for a roll that is 9ft wide by 12 yds. long. Shipping is high though.
For muslin backdrops I use Backdrop Outlet on EBay. He is reasonable.
