Let me show you folks that I can be a good sport.
I would like to offer the following unless it violates dpc rules.
Challenge:
If during voting for "Stupid Gift" you can correctly identify which entry is mine I will gladly award you by printing one of your works on top quality artist canvas in a format up to 8"x10". The finished canvas print will be sealed with artist varnish (to preserve the finish) and if you wish be coated with a clear media to simulate artist brush strokes. For your copyright protection I will not retain a copy of your print after the finished work is shipped.
ADDED INFORMATION:
Please note that the work will be printed and finished on canvas BUT not stretch mounted as done with an oil painting. It will be glued to a rigid backing as normal for this type of canvas. The work is then ready for you to frame just like a photograph except without glass. The canvas I work with is flat stock 8.5" x 11" made exclusively for inkjet art printing.
Shipping within the continental United States included. I will honor my offer to everyone that makes the correct identification. If no one makes the correct guess I will still print one persons print (see below).
This is how it will work
1. View all Stupid Gift entries and select the work that you believe to be mine.
2. Send you guess to me at this special address: "elmo_few-dpc@yahoo.com". Your reply should state the following:
Louis,
I believe the Stupid Gift entry entitled "*****************" is your entry.
Sign using your dpc username along with a valid return email address.
3. Upon receipt of your entry I will immediately reply back telling you if you are correct.
4. All entries must be received before the Stupid Gift voting period ends. Once the Stupid Gift voting is concluded no further entries will be accepted or acknowledged.
4. In the event no one correctly identifies my entry I will pick a number from a hat. The numbers will correspond to the number posted next to you username as shown below. The special drawing will occur the day after voting for dpc's Stupid Gift challenge has concluded. The winner will be notified by email. All other entrants will be notified who won the special drawing.
This offer is open only to the following persons when were caught in the middle of my temper tantrum.
1. BAMartin
2. trevytrev
3. yospiff
4. thegrandwazoo
5. karmat
6. timfythtoo
7. bitme
8. Judi
Please RSVP if possible. Comments welcomed.
Sincerely,
Louis

I don't think it violates anything.
However, please take my name off of the list. I have the "powers" to enable me to find yours, or see it before voting is over. Kinda gives me an unfair advantage, ya know. ;) |

Unfortunately many people either do not read the title, or feel that it is shoehorning to depend on the title to make the connection to the challenge. Some voters feel the photo needs to be able to stand on its own. |
Thank you for the blunt comments, it never ceases to amaze me how some folks take this challenge and themselves far to seriously. Oh, it really is not necessary to conceal your own opinion by speaking for "some voters".
You impressed me with your use of shoehorn. When used as a verb it means - "fit for a specific purpose even when not well suited" . It is gratifying to know that "some voters" are so astute and perfectly attuned to the meaning of each work. "Some voter" should help us out and publish a work defining the meaning of life. It would not even need a title since as you pointed out "the photo needs to be able to stand on its own."
Obviously, you certainly pushed my button when all I was trying to do was join in and share the fun of the speed challenge. Don't bother replying, your comments would only be insulting. Just do me a favor and have the fortitude to speak for yourself.

Well brother she was just trying to enlighten you to the fact that on this site, voters can and will be harsh. I don't think she was trying to get your ire up just to kind of prepare you.
But since you were tweaked by her comment of help you will unfortunately see that she is correct when the votes start coming in. "DNMC" and "SHOEHORNING" are beat down in the challenges. I think she was trying to be nice with her comments not rude.
But anyway good luck! |
Wow, step away for a couple of hours and see how an innocent comment can be taken all out of proportion.
Louis, I am so sorry if you took my comment in the wrong way. I noticed that you were relatively new here and was trying to give you a friendly warning as to what might happen. I personally think the title is part of the overall package, but I have been burnt by voters who did not see it that way.
Good luck in the challenge. I too have entered this one. I will be looking for your submission. I would love a canvas print from you. Good luck and welcome to DPC. |

I guess you mean by too much, too expensive. No not at all. I do not sell prints and do this all only for the fun of it. This is a great pass time and I do enjoy the hobby. I reproduced the following on canvas. The multi-media piece "Cypress Point Pond" got a ribbon in a regional art league show and the second "Orange Twins" was done as a gift for dear friends. A digital rendering does not show how a canvas printed work looks but at least you can get the idea.

Louis, I went through the same things reading this thread that the others went through writing it. All of which is by way of asking whether I can have karmat's slot. *grin* |

Well I'm in and I hope you do well and I get a print out of this. I ,too, think that a good title can make or break a photo, just goes to show how different people view things! Thanks for the offer louisp. Trevor~
