I am new to using studio lights and have been trying to perfect my lighting. These 2 photos were taken under same situations. I am assuming my back light didnt fire on 1.
I used P setting, exposure dialed down to -1.7
Any advice on where to place lights? for these I uses 1 softbox to the right of the camera, and 1 umbrella light to the back right of me (opposite the softbox)

These are done with studio lights?
The EXIF data says you were shooting at ISO 1600 and 1/15th of a second, neither of which should be necessary. You should be shooting ISO 100 (maybe 200 at the most) and anything perhaps 1/125th of a second or faster.
The only reason to shoot higher ISOs and/or slower shutter speeds would be if there were ambient light you wanted to include (example: christmas lights or other lights that you don't want to drown out with your strobes).
Do you have a light meter?
You need to meter the light with a light meter (your camera's meter can't read the strobes because the duration of the light is too short).
If you can get ahold of a light meter, I'd suggest starting with something like ISO 100, f/8 and 1/125th of a second and experiment from there.

The P setting doesn't really work here, because the cam makes decisions and only makes those decisions in the light available at the moment; not the strobes.
Use Manual setting, and try try again ;)
