Due to a tie for 1st place, the challenge placements have been adjusted to award blue ribbons to both  GHjoll and  KarenNfld for their respective entries.
Congratulations to both on their first-place wins!

Everyone must be busy for the holidays, I didn't even see a thread wondering what happens in case of a tie. :P
Congrats to the blue ribbons. How does the system decide who gets first when there is a tie? |

When there's a true tie (that is, the scores are EXACTLY the same, not just to the 4 decimal places displayed) the database gives the better placement to the entry with the lower IMAGE_ID (that is, the earlier entry). It's not explicitly programmed that way, that's just how the database sorts by default.
As a matter of policy, we will change this only when ribbons are affected. Ties for 4th place or lower are not changed.

| So is this why the red ribbon was removed, it became a blue as well and there is now no second. 2 firsts and a third? |

Yeah, I think that's the way it usually works when there's a tie for first in a competition. There are two first places awarded, second is skipped, and then third. |

I think that the 3rd place winner should go to second and everyone slides up a spot.  Hotpasta should get a ribbon for 3rd. |

That's correct. The third place entry did have the second-best score, but it was the third highest-scoring photograph -- thus the third-place finish. This is the way it is done in most ranked competitions, including the Olympics.
