Save for web is likely using a default palette of known web-safe colors, and the colors in your image are outside that gamut, so they are being converted to the nearest color that is within the defined web-safe color range.

That's easy.
If you really want to go crazy quickly, just read the forums here.
It's true, ask any SC member.

I can't help you go insane, but I can describe what it will be like when you get there. :)

Photography is insane...

My counselor said that one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over with different results. I keep taking pictures and no two are alike so there for Im completely off my rocker :S

Be sure you are directing it to save as a jpg; by default it saves as a gif with a limited color palette. Once you choose jpg from the drop-down list it will use that as default until you change it again.

If you mean, "How do I make sure it's in the sRGB space, and how do I put it in that space if it's not?" then:

Check the image parameters in "Edit/Color Settings"

Assign a different color space in "Edit/Assign Profile"

Convert to a different color space in "Edit/Convert to Profile"

Thank you!
I've been trying to figure this out for a while. Always like that with photoshop--one big problem with one simple solution. I did lose a smidgen of saturation, but no where near what I was losing, I wish I could re enter the challenge!
Oh, is it best to work in sRGB, or does it really matter?
