depends, tell me what model of canon it is and i'll let you know. basically if it doesn't say EOS something on it, then it'll be an FD mount (old manual focus lenses) and will not work on modern ones. As for Nikons... i'm not sure, but I didn't think they were backwards compatable.

For $600 I'd buy the body, the 50mm and you'll have about $180 for a decent walkaround lens which is good money on eBay for a better lens than the kit. You might even have some money left over for some spare batteries (essential by the way). But if you opt for extra batts, don't get the official brand, go for a company called Sterlingtek- made in the same factory as the canon ones to the same specifications except they're twice as powerful but without the canon branding.

It was a crap shoot with the Canon lens... I figured it might not be compatible. Thanks for confirming that.

Also thanks for the battery info - I'll look into it.

The deed is done!

I got a Canon EOS 350D body, a 4 GB memory card and a Canon Normal EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens. It's all being shipped to Florida, where I'll be for Christmas!
