Karl Rove had many a Texas politician change their party affiliation to get them elected...not what I suspect he is doing here, but he manages to keep his stinkin' fingers in the pie...regardless! ack! It will be VERY interesting! |

I'm interested to find out who wins. I have no serious interest in politics, but I hear that Hilary Clinton is pretty confident in her winning.
I see Saturday Night Live always making fun of the upcoming election :P |

Goldwater/Miller redux!
As the candidates themselves say: "Four boobs in the Whitehouse are better than one!" |

Yes, very interesting year but also scary with implications that will effect the US and World for years if not decades to come... |
Things aren't that scary when you are already at the bottom of the well... |
You don't think things can get worse??? I know we don't agree polically very often but I'd hope we could agree that things have been worse, and could be much worse then they currently are.

So what is the fear here ? ... that he gets killed or that he gets elected, then killed and then the vice becomes president? If the latter was the fear, than just make sure he has a decent running mate.
Originally posted by noraneko: According to several news articles both local and national, there seems to be a pretty pervasive fear among African Americans in the south (at least in South Carolina, where the interviews were conducted) that Obama is an almost certain target for assassination. Several interviewees who preferred Obama said they would vote for Hilary instead just to allay those fears. I wonder how widespread this is? |

There are always people who say "it could be worse" - We need more people who say "here's how I make it better".

I watched this enlightening program on PBS:
independent lens
Which not only revealed more than I knew about Ralph Nader, but also re-ignited my frustration about the way our political system is set up and how (as others have mentioned in this thread) politicians are, for the most part, in the pockets of large "interest groups".
This is nothing new - but the sad part is, since the major media is also reliant on support from "interest groups" - they too, are in themselves politically motivated in a way. So even in a world with so much access to information, the majority of it is filtered through a non-independent "lens".

Agreed, but we all disagree on how to make it better. I hope we can all at least agree that it can get worse and that is why it's important for people to go out, do some homework, figure out who they think will make things better, then get out and vote.
Not just vote for D because R screwed everything up, or not because they are black or white or a woman or young or old or pretty or speaks well or has a hot wife or you always vote R so that's what you are doing this time or because Oprah said so. Figure out what is important to you, and vote for the one that best represents what you want to see happen.

I am afraid Ron Paul is the only true President on the platform of either party. The only one who has been opposed to the war from the outset and wants to get out as soon as possible. |

Very true.
I've spent my adult life thinking that it would be great to see a liberal female or black president. Now that I have that choice I'm voting for an old, white, Republican man. |

C) not tax me as high (because I have no children and get no cuts)
D) lower my medical insurance (because i'm in the 30-40 range now so i'm about to die so rates went up)
E) get rid of illegals who take our jobs (my best friend is about to lose her house because they fired her contractor husband and are paying illegals to do the job for half the cost)
AND! They should also fire the people who work in the immigration department when you call and inform them of the illegals (where they are, who they work for) and they never get back to you or act like they will do anything about it.
F) Get rid of letting "those people" start businesses and then hand the businesses off to their family members without having to pay taxes"
The average joe can have the hardest time starting a business. Makes business people not even want to be born here just so they can come over and reap the benefits of not paying taxes.
.....that's who I will vote for and that's just a little of what I want. |
you have some good points, Im with you in a way on immigration. Its sad when you think of people who leave everything behind for a better life somewhere else, but they are breaking laws and they are taking away from legal residents of a land. Also, i dont buy the argument that they do jobs that locals dont want to do. Its really should read that they do jobs for a lot less money than locals will do it for. As far as uprooting families that have been living for a while in the country and sending them back, well Im not for that either..maybe make them legal and curtail the entrance of new people.
Umm...I dont think I get your first point. If someone is a drug user they should starve? |

Not so...both Kucinich and Richardson were opposed from the beginning and want us out ASAP.
If I had my way, the Rupubli-cons would never ever get their hands on power again. Never. Never. Of course, I've been saying that since '68.

My favorite candidates are as follows:
Kucinich
Paul
Obama
Clinton
However I think it's going to be a Hillary vs Evil election.
oh and by the way ron paul supporters raised over $6 million dollars on the 16th. He raised over $4 million on nov 5th.
