I'm sorry to go off track for a second, but recall that the referundum about electoral reform in the last provincial election here in Ontario (where the Liberals won a healthy majority government) was soundly trounced by the voters. Electoral reform is an issue for splinter parties who have fallen off the right side of the political scale, and who would otherwise never be heard in the public forum - the public recognize and reject that. |
Louis,
I'll go off track with you briefly.
I'm about as left-leaning as they come, but I'm all for the proportional system tested (and rejected) in the referendum. All the research I did seemed to show it as superior to the present system (though not perfect by far).
If you could point me in the direction of other info/literature/web-sites etc, I'd appreciate it.
Now, back to the debate already in progress... |
Just to be clear in case it wasn't, my take is an opinion. It frightens me that reform would potentially give a group like the "Family Coalition" political traction at Queens Park. The best balanced overview of the referendum and the question is in the wiki article, and opinions for both sides can be found in the "Notes" section. (By the way, the NDP were in favour of it! Not much more left than that if you're talking about a viable party with real potential to govern I guess.)

In other words, read my lips, no more Bush.
There. Mission accomplished. |

I think that Barack may well be the right one for the job... time for a change of course as a country ... the same old stuff has been tried and failed.
His last name is not Bush or Clinton... Ron Paul would be almost as good ... but he is not electable (too radical)... Rudy has major kinks in his armor (seems a little "greasy" to me ) and Huckkaby ... would likely pardon anyone (if they came to Christ) ... Edwards ... please
And Condi ain't running... So that leaves me with Barack

Chinabun would be a lot easier on the eyes than the presidents we've seen and expect to see, but it might be said that a lot of the fear and loathing the rest of the world projects toward the US has to do with the fact that parochial elections that are decided by xenophobic, nationalist voters decide on administrations that ultimately influence a lot of other people in other places. Still 'n all, it's your circus.

According to several news articles both local and national, there seems to be a pretty pervasive fear among African Americans in the south (at least in South Carolina, where the interviews were conducted) that Obama is an almost certain target for assassination. Several interviewees who preferred Obama said they would vote for Hilary instead just to allay those fears. I wonder how widespread this is? |

Yeah, since we can't have Chinabun, he would do.

I hear that a lot, but the sentiment seems to be shifting as more people find out what he stands for, and what he realistically hopes to accomplish as president.
It saddens me when I step back and realize that the core values upon which this country was built are now considered radical.
Sure his ideas are shocking to a population that has learned to hand over their money, freedom and sense of personal responsibility to the government, but I think that's a good radical.

I read somewhere that Karl Rove has been sending Obama information on how to defeat Hillary. Why would Karl Rove want Obama over Hillary being that he is a Republican? He must have something up his sleeve and it scares me. |

That's obvious. They are trying to weaken her popularity with infighting, to lessen her chance of beating the Repulican nominee.

I don't know about President, but I am still running for Senate against Cindi and I approve this message. ...although my billboard needs updating.
All I can say about this coming election is that it will be an interesting year. |

Yes, very interesting year but also scary with implications that will effect the US and World for years if not decades to come... |

That has been true of any US Presidential election in the past 100 years or so. |
